I wonder how come the oil pressure needle is oranger than the others?
Optional extra?

CdG - yes, gradual improvements especially as the S8 has now gone, the 560 will get more usage.

The coolant temp and economy (hahaha) gauge needles are also slightly paler than the fuel tank needle. I suspect the answer may lie in the net amount of time each needle has been exposed to direct sunlight, and consequent UV fading. Perhaps the oil pressure needle is in shade more of the time as the sun works its way around the parked car.

Another satisfying job which turned the seats and armrest, which looked like this:

to this:

The seats were less worn and have come up even better.

I like the piping CdG: did that car have a re-trim or was it standard? Don't remember seeing contrasting piping before....

It's not original Harry. r129sl thinks it would originally have had velour - which I like - but it was fully, and expensively, re-trimmed a long time back. I wouldn't have chosen piping but it looks pretty good actually and I'm not planning to change it, but was keen to smarten it up a bit.

Yeah, this st comes in handy all the time. My wife is always thanking me for it.
Best quote I've seen for a while - rings true. How do our wives cope?

Then again, I've no idea when my niece's birthday is or who my God-children are, information she can recall without hesitation and usually with a hint of damnation. Opposites attract etc.

An anecdote for thread - I was passed by two gentlemen making progress on the M6 in lousy weather one morning, sometime in the late 1980's, in a 560SEC registration F1GHT.

Today's task was to give the seats their third going over with the dying polish and then condition. They've come up very nicely and it has proven to be a worthwhile job. I also cleaned, polished and then conditioned the steering wheel - a job that seems to be rarely done, despite the fact that most wheels must get pretty minging over the years.

Finally, I Autosol'd the chrome all over the car, gave all the glass a really good clean inside and out, and then wiped around the engine bay with a petrol-soaked rag to clean off some of the under-bonnet grime.

A satisfying few hours.

Yes I need to treat my chrome work too - both sides of the bumper chromes in fact, and have bought some Dynax UC wax for this purpose.

My chromes are in pretty good condition having been replaced so should only need a wipe down with Gibbs or similar.

I love all the amazing 1980s Mercedes conversions. I would love to know what the original owners were like.
That's fantastic! biggrin

Great to see the mighty SEC yesterday CDG; what a charming old thing.

The roof on the creation above looks like it never quite gets around to opening fully.

And the interior is... interesting.

I think you're right about the roof - that's as good as it gets! I'd happily have that interior though.

My 560 had a good exterior de-gunge by the local Romanian crew to wash 300 miles worth of salt and grime off. The filthy journey home this morning reminded me that I definitely need to reoplace the wipers, so I'll do a Halfords trip tomorrow.

I've been searching through my old photobucket accounts and found a couple of shots of my old 500 SECs

Nice place to be!

Really want another one!

Paid less than £1000 for each of them, I don't think that will happen again...

Sadly not mine.

It's a friend of a friend's car, part of a rather impressive collection.

The car was built by "Styling Garage" an is a wide body gull wing!

I've been thinking about that one overnight. Even as someone who likes to see cars earning the sort of money that encourages people to invest in their restoration and refurbishment, and look after them for the long term, I just have a complete mental block at the that price. I could see it being worth 25 to someone, and would probably pay that myself if it's as it appears to be. But 50 is so obviously an arbitrary number pulled out of thin air, and such a transparent attempt to re-set the whole market. And I think it's a bit late in the day to do that. For me that's one of many harbingers of a general correction in asset prices (not just cars) in 2017.
