Car dropped off at Edward Hall's place in Aylesbury for new screen/seal, checking fuelling/CIS, transmission bowden cable adjustment and a few other bits/bobs.

Outside of an MB forum get together, i've never seen such a large collection of 80s/90s Mercs in one place.

SEC dropped off at my local Merc specialist for a service and general going over.

Initial reports are that the noisy fuel pump is nothing to worry about, but there was insufficient oil in the hydraulic suspension so that needs replacing, I need a new central locking actuator, and one of the engine exhaust down pipes needs replacing. For the latter, there is one available in the country, which we've ordered, but at £212 plus the fitting kit, the bill is already adding up!

Still to look at is the cause of a slight lurch from N to D, and a noisy blower fan.

I think I need to do the engine exhaust down pipes on mine, one or both of them is blowing and I can see an attempted previous welded repair. My plan is replace both then have a stainless system built which cuts out the two mid/last boxes.

£212 sounds a reasonable price, is that from MB? Do you happen to have the part number/s to hand? I may see if I can get them from Genuine Auto Parts. Thanks.

I'm not sure where it's coming from and don't have the part number. I'll check the paperwork when the car's back to see if there are any more details I can pass on.

I've lumped it in with work that EH are doing for me - my hands don't function in this cold weather!

It's under the passenger side glovebox I believe, remove the under dash carpet panel.

That's really useful thanks.

Interesting I went to www.genuineautoparts.com to price them up and the site is not functioning, apparently they are "working hard to bring a new experience". Sounds like they have ceased trading to me.

You'd do better bidding for this, with a rather low estimate.

I wonder what this 560 will go for https://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/mercedes-560-se...

Went for £5900 plus premium. Looks excellent value to me.

I was finally able to collect the car this morning. It's been serviced, the front exhaust pipe replaced, and the driver's door central locking vacuum element replaced. The suspension fluid has been replaced and the car has lost its 'saggy at the back' look and now sits nice and level.

Advisories are that the starter motor sticks occasionally, which I already knew, and there's a knock from the front anti-roll bar. These are minor irritants and I can live with both.

It's looking rather splendid in the wintery sunshine. I might even wash it.

feedback on the Merc forum suggested it was a bit of a dog and probably worth half that smile

Good work, who did you use to do the work?

Mine is still with EH, will ask him about my central locking too

My local specialist in Gloucester is Robin Lamb - he's worked on my 190, the 280 estate and now the SEC. They know what they're doing and are sensibly priced.

Even so, there should be plenty of money left over for work, and they ain't making 'em like that any more! Nice colours too. I reckon for someone prepared to either spend or get their hands dirty that'll be a nice project.

Think I'm just impatient and would seek a better starting point

Do you have a link the Merc forum thread please?

I saw this 560 "in the metal" and was surprised it made as much as it did. I saw it more like £4k but prices are clearly on the up and stuff seems to make good money at this particular auction.
