Now this is top money (aside from that 40/50k 13000 mile car from a few weeks back) and the mileage might put some off. Lovely colour and presentation, or so it appears.

If everyone whom R129SL has helped, on here or on many other forums, gave back a quid or two we could probably crowd-fund it as a thank-you present. scratchchin

That's yummy.

I'm not sure it's unreasonably priced actually; there aren't that many that hit the market, and that looks a good one.

That looks glorious and I think not unreasonably priced. If r129sl just got off his arse and did a bit more work and a bit less car-daydreaming, he'd be able to afford it, too.

Another wasted day today. Spun down to Barnsley for a Barnsley chop (true). Total earned today: nil. But the company and food were excellent and the drive there and back very rewarding, that A1(M) racetrack from Leeds to Leeming can be a joy.

That is how I remember it but, the truth is, it was a little less lovely than that. It was a bit of a bugger's muddle, too. Mine started life as a 1986 500 SEC. I fitted a post-88 interior with the fluted door cards and soft leather seats as well as seat heaters. I also replaced the 5.0litre which had an incurable miss (turned out to be a cracked valve) with a 5.6. But it needed a lot of bodywork, there were blisters on most panels, the rear wheel arches needed replacing, the door bottoms were bad, the grille surround was not so hot... That said, it had new bumper chromes and grille and the motor had a new chain and rails and valve stem seals. The air con worked a treat. I wish I had kept it. It has made me sad flicking through my pictures for the purpose of this post!

Here it is looking great:

But look at these close-ups (which I took for the purposes of the sale advert):

You are a harsher critic than me, I would be able to live with a black 500/560 in that condition.... My 560 is a lot lot worse!

560 with 179k when last MOT'd in 2010....

Late car tho in a good colour, I expect it will still make £2k + as it stands

Now sold too based on what ive read on the 'official' MB club forum

Prices for the 560sec seem to be increasing exponentially.

Magnificent. Probably the best I've ever seen (since they were new, anyway)

Thank you gentlemen, very kind. It took me 3 years and numerous unsuccessful trips to Germany to find this car.

I had a few jobs done to it though:

  • All woods refinished by silvercrest, they are now better than new.
  • Leather reconnolysed by the last connoly trained man alive. Again, they now have the factory matt black finish and look new.
  • I swapped the original unaudible becker headunit by a more recent becker indianapolis and that respects the factory looks. I had all speakers replaced by the highest quality items that could fit in the original spots. I had a custom made mini sub added to the passenger footwell in a taylor made encasing. It sits below the passenger feet and is totally invisible to the eye.
I kept all the original parts obviously.
At least i can now listen to Vivaldi's Four Seasons in total serenity! smile

I had all four light clusters taken out and cleaned up to get that sharp look back. I had slightly more powerfull headlight bulbs fitted so that i can see at night! smile

The rear self levelling suspension was playing a bit so Raikku at Waffzuff fixed that.

The only minor things in need of doing are the clock which has a mind of its own and the aircon system that has a small leak.

I will post more detailed pictures when the sun dares showing up...

Btw, i thought that the 13k miles at £40k was a total bargain. If i did not have mine, i would have scooped it up!

Was not my fav colour either tbh. I like sec's in dark grey. They look the most menacing if that makes sense. Yet, i am still reasonably happy with this smoke silver. They are hard enough to find. When this one popped up, i was not going to turn it down!

It looks exceptional erics I am very jealous.

New one on ebay today with 178,000 miles curiously priced at £8,888...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172526953124?ul_noapp=tr...

I'm sure this has been for sale previously for much less, I wonder if someone has bought it and tidied up a few bits and is now seeking to make a bit of a profit.
