However, with a six speed manual you would get a substantial uplift in performance and economy without increasing power or torque, so that might be enough to make a 560 or a late 265 hp 500 lots of fun.
Well, yes. But £12k.

Utterpiffle. Delightfully insane! Rather of their time perhaps, but I find myself admiring them more than I should.

I doubt I'll be following your lead though, not least due to a combination of parsimony and technical ineptitude.

Just to add, you've done some fantastic work on those cars. Good skills.

Woah, I've seen a few 4-doors with coupe fronts, but never that way around. Must have had a front end prang at some point... 4-door parts are way cheaper!

Very subtle - I like it as I miss not having the 3PS on the bonnet (vs my 124)

If you'd described that to me, I'd have said it sounded awful. Seeing it in the metal, it actually looks OK.

Poor car; looks like it could be deserving of the title, "The Prisoner of Zender," (albeit looking more like it has had a decade in an off-grid prison camp).

It's a 3.8, less than half that power probably, looks like a completely standard m116. Nice wheels. Needs more v8 badges.

The good news; exactly the sort of help I was hoping for with this thread. Thank you.

The bad news; £69 plus £12 delivery. Crikey. The Febi version for the W126 (different bonnet) is half that.
Looks like the SEC Shop, or a Main Dealer, is the only option for the bonnet insulation. The other online sellers don't do these specific ones.

The part number is A1266820226 I believe, worth giving a MD a try with your MBOC 10% discount

GAP have it for 73 + shipping (circa £10)

I'll be needing one myself but will get it fitted by a specialist with the other items i need doing.

In other news, I started replacing the injectors on my 162k mile 560 with the parts below. No real reason too, i just recalled changing injectors on my old 190e 2.6 and it having a nice improvement in throttle response and pickup.

Injectors: A0000785823 / Bosch 0437502054
O rings: A0099971048
Injector holders: A1170700455
injector seal : A1160700077
injector bracket: A1160700740

I say 'started' as i had real struggle removing the injector hold down clamp bolts on both sides. Managed to do one side (just about got away with one of them), but rounded out one of the 5mm allen hex bolts on the NS bank. Spec is 10nM for these bolts, i must have been applying 5 times than when it rounded out. Lots of Rost Off in use before hand too.

Have also tried hammering home a torx bit, but that just ended up slipping too, so will need to get it drilled out and maybe re-tapped. Can't tell if they've been removed before - the injectors i did remove on the OS bank all had 'Made in Germany' on them (should be West Germany?), made me think they've been changed before.

Also, the Injector holders did not budge on mine, so have left the originals in place. I'd heard they can be pulled out with the injectors, mine seemed quite happy where they were, so both they and the o-rings were not used.

One piece of good news was replacing the Cruise control module with an item from Mercedes Mark in Wirral, has now restored service. Will be useful when navigating the 50mph zones on the M1/M3, and the 'smart' motorways now popping up.

Chaps, watch tonights wheeler dealers, 560 SEC, did a pretty good job, not 100 percent my taste but nice.

Saw this on Ebay,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-SEC-500-CO...

Shows the fantasy land that guy is living in with the one I posted above, he has this horror as well

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-500-SEC-AUTO-MA...

Chrome arches, gash 90s wheels, rust, crap colour, parts car.
