Evening all.

I'm hoping to get into a 500 or 560sec over the next 12-18months (couple of cars to strip/sell 1st) and was wondering if someone could give me a realistic budget to have before I even start looking. I wouldn't be looking for concourse but would like a nice example to use on the weekends that I'm not working.
I see a few on eBay that are £6-8k is this a proper start point or would I be able to start looking with £4-5k? I'm a bit out of the loop with these as the last one I bought cost £900 4years ago.

Cheers

Jamie

Thanks CharlesdeGaulle, I read your thread but didn't want to hijack it with my own post.

No probs. The reason I didn't post it in Reader Cars was exactly because I didn't want it to be 'my' thread but a more useful general one. There's quite a bit of expertise in there.

The barge 1-5 thread has a love affair with Mercs and might also be worth a try as well as this one you've started.

I'm about to pop out, but will add something more useful later.

You may get lucky with a cheaper one, (<5k) although most that i saw were dogs and in need of scrapping.

This was the car I bought back in May for over 8k - http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C741330?dt=1#

Has an excellent history, and close to 25k spent in the last 4yrs (2k by me since May) - still needs a few things doing mind, but is overall a solid example, that's not far off excellent condition.

I'm still in 2 minds whether to keep it or not mainly as its not garaged and living on the drive for 90% of its life in my ownership won't do it any good - i will sort the issuettes and probably decide in the new year.

Late Nov/early Dec is always the time i start thinking about selling cars mainly due to be unable to drive them (salt) or its too cold to work on them!

I'd pay over £8k for that one too, it had already had the rear deck replaced which is my major concern.

It will probably be this time next year when I actually get one due to our 2nd child being due in April. I finally have a garage big enough to park a car the size of an SEC in so it won't live outside & wont be driven when it's icy/salt on the roads.

Can I add my name to the list of interest parties?

From what I've heard from specialists, any fix isn't permanent due to the inherent flex in the roofline caused by the frameless design and lack of traditional b-pillar; movement here can make the seal less effective.

OP - if you can hang on for 12-18 months, you may be interested in mine in due course.

By Feb 18, most likely Christmas 17, I'll have had to find a new job, sell a house, buy another in an as yet unknown location (sort of depending on the next job). I suspect that will force some down-sizing of all sorts of things, including the fleet. If I strike lucky and get a house with space and outbuildings I wouldn't dream of selling, but if I end up in an interim rental, all bets are off; a distress sale in the truest sense.

Yes, will advise - got a bit of tinkering to do first. Hoping once its sorted, it'll be spring and my SAD will have diminished!

That would time with my timescale perfectly as that will be the time I start actively looking. Keep me in mind please.

Will do, they are terrific cars.

Have you seen the one on the Barge 1-5 thread? It's for sale now, so might be too early for you, but it looks a cracker and is very cheap.

Yeah, I'd already seen that one while idly browsing the web but it's too early with xmas coming up. Looks nice though.
