Not at all.

Mine was due a service but has full history, 83k miles, pretty much immaculate condition. Now serviced stands me in at just over £10k.

Was advertised for a bit more than that, previous owner had already bought a bi turbo E63 estate and wanted the space back.

Cheers Ross, what awesome VFM these are currently, love my CLS but need a 55 engine, only one way price wise I reckon, E500's are 30 grand now.

I LOVE the CLS - just a lack of rear seats for my gang! This can happily trundle us all around with the dog crate in the boot too when necessary! It does do a great impression of a sensible family car!

Out of all of those I'd have the 55k engined cars and if need more room or 5 seats I'd go E55, exactly what I have done actually.

I've had my E55 for nearly a year and 10k-ish miles now. I really prefer the 55 engines to the 63s. The way it drives, how reliable it is and the power delivery just trump the 63s from my experience. The 55 does fall down massively on sound though, especially the E55. It's so damn quiet as standard. Mines a 2 owner car, father and son, very well looked after and only ever serviced at MB so I was lucky, it was also 100% standard so a nice clean slate to start from.

First thing I addressed was the intercooler pump as the supercharger stopped engaging after a few WOT runs, this was less than £150 and took less than half hour to fit, it also needed discs and pads all round. Again, an easy job and only £500 for genuine Mercedes parts.

The 55s are incredibly easy to mod if that's your thing, I haven't really felt the need to go faster as it still surprises me when I kick down but I've had an offer on a pulley and map for less than £500 so it'd be rude not to, especially as the 83mm pulley on increases boost by 1psi. They're also a little soft suspension wise and they ride incredibly high. I solved this with lowering links at less than £100 and about an hour to fit, it now rides a tad firmer and it handles a lot better now, surprisingly so for a car so heavy.

I've also put a carbon rear diffuser and E63 spoiler on the rear to make it stand out a little more but the blandness of these is a big positive I think.

Then to solve the incredibly and quite frankly disappointing exhaust note I've had the rear resonators and secondary cats taken out, this still doesn't make it silly loud and you can still go around very silently. It's still missing a little something so I've purchased a set C63 back boxes. Hopefully these get fitted this week and I won't be disappointed.

SBC can be a worry but that can be done for around £700 now and the airmatic suspension is the only other worry but Arnott do these at a very reasonable price.

A massive performance bargain when all is said and done I think.

A couple of snaps of mine...

I've put a video together of my thoughts on the car but I don't think I'm allowed to post it on here?

Bet it sounds lovely with the exhaust mods you've done! one of the guys on that vid runs mid 11.0 second quarter mile times on the standard 18" wheels which is ridiculously quick for a big saloon.Must admit I first encountered a W211 E55 in my old remapped Octavia VRS one sunday morning on a long section of empty dual carriageway, well to say I got blown away was a bit of an understatement!!eek
