Dare I venture a 'wow' followed by a cheeky 'za?'

The boy Harris when of Autocar ran a long termer (labrador version) and loved it.

Sleeper Magnifique.

It went off the classifieds so i assumed it was sold. TBH it was the best thing that could have happened. I will be able to pick one up in March for around £20k i reckon and by then it will be good weather for the bikeclap Which means a wait till around September and maybe the CLS55 AMG will be around £15k....

....but i wouldnt think twice anout a C32 AMG for the right money as i cant see it have much further to drop etc....

Cheers smile

After Lord Bolton’s eulogy to his sadly missed B5 its new owner can only repeat, wait to see if one comes up as you won’t be disappointed.

Furthermore as His Royal Boltoness will testify, you don’t get so much as a squeak out of a B5 unlike other German offerings, it uses less fuel than the AMG, goes quicker than the AMG, is more scarce than the AMG and remains one of the few cars that allows you to get away with some stickers down the side if you so choose!

Really, it’s well worth biding your time in the current market as although they are likely to hold their money a little better than the AMG I am sure mine is worth little more than a book of Green Shield Stamps and some carrots.

CH had the C55 - same motor but no s/c. Yes he loved it.

I guess my other question is, would an E500 deliver most of the bang for a lot less buck?
Yes if you get the 386bhp facelift one. Earlier one has 300bhp. Later one has more top end.

Next stupid question - how can I tell what a facelift one is, if the advert doesn't state the bhp? Without asking the seller obviously smile

First check the date - the roadtests were late 06. So I gusee registrations started late 06/early 07.

If it's on Autotrader check the cc's - early ones are around 5000cc. later ones 5400.

Most of the few facelifts areound are still in the dealer network - I guess the real bargains will start appearing at the tail end of 09

Look, the way this whole big game hunting thing works is...IF YOU DONT GO AROUND TELLING EVERYONE!

The 456/550 game is already ruined as every man and his dog are hunting them. The 996tt game is ruined as all the Porsche boys are blaming each other for pushing their values down, so everyone is hunting them aswell. I hoped though that the current AMG financial meltdown would slide by ignored and mean unobtrusive big game bargain hunting.

Not that some of us have our eyes on the T-Rex 65s hitting £20k with owners/traders desperate to offload their metal or anything... smile

There are 2 chances of the big dog Mercs staying above £30k for longer than Paris Hilton can keep her knickers on...slim and none and slim was last seen being Gordon Brown's economic miracle. Thirsty, big lumbering beasts, a now replaced model, extortionately expensive when released, eclipsed in the range by an even bigger dog now by Merc and frequently derided as pointless. Oh yes, depreciation bargaintastic superbness at its best.

So is the worst of it over now for the AMG models - will an 03/04 E55 fall much further, or is their still a loong way to fall?

Surely for the performance they can't fall that much further (I'm thinking R34 Skylines)?

No way.
The CL65 is currently at around £35k and losing £2k/month for an 04 model. And to be honest 04 seems to be the turn around point for Merc trying to get their act in gear to make cars properly again.

Im expecting £20k buys you one come June/July time.

I doubt they will hit £20k very much indeed by this summer but if they do, you can call me Flint.

I'd suggest the quality isn't quite as dire as the recently rebroadcast Clarkson/TG feature on 'Dave' suggests but some of the switchgear is straight from the Mattel parts bin, 1975.

Probably the most uninvolving 612bhp known to man (he got that bit right) and handling that will leave any M or 911 bod underwhelmed.

For effortless indominatability, however, the 65AMG powerplant is peerless.

If I wanted sports car handling Id buy a Caterham.

The quality issue is simply what goes on with these cars from spending time talking with and reading ownership experiences. I havent a clue what Clarkson or TG said. The rust issues are well known and the Mobilolife warranty seems to be subjective on various conditions, i.e. you have to know exactly what you are getting yourself into. The cost of spares, parts and fixing broken stuff or the rust if you land yourself outside of the t&c's of the warranty is a nasty hit to take.

I think they are pretty much at rock bottom now, not a V8 but i've just bought a w210 97 E36 AMG for less than 3k with tax and test, good spec and in very good condition. There appears to be a very good w210 E55 on ebay for £4750 buy it now which is probably worth a punt at low 4's.

With the newer w211 E55 (the supercharged one) hitting £15k i can only really see them slide down to £12k over the next year, i doubt they are going to drop below £10k any time soon.

The C32's are also getting quite cheap, i reckon they might touch £5k soon but i can't see them going much lower than that as the C36's are still at around £3k for a good one with the c43's being around £4k.

No idea what's going on at the top but i think with the previous generation cars being as cheap as they are at the moment (w210 & w202s) it's tempting people in to them so they should start selling quite quickly so perhaps the newer stuff will firm up price wise?

Also been watching the w211 E500's and they seem to have dropped down to about £8k now and again i can't see them dropping much more.
