Took the car for a spin with Tom this morning. A crawl around the gridlock of Manchester and a chance to open the valves up when the road cleared. I still averaged 21mpg for the full journey!
My word. My first experience in a supercharged V8! I would describe it as like being in a human slingshot. The acceleration from 35mph to 70mph was in a word, ridiculous. If I were lucky enough to own such a car i know I could kiss goodbye to my licence within weeks!
Rich', you didn't have to take an internet stranger out in your new car but you did, so thanks!

from what I remember on that pic it was showing distance coverd as 110 miles at an average of 156 mph and 14.1 mpg. Not in the uk but in Germany and the still being overtaken !!!!
Awesome fast cruiser - nothing that I can think of could compete with it for that purpose, other than maybe the S or CL class!
Well, after just over 6 months of ownership I have done 8,000 miles with an average of 17.5 mpg.
Mostly short commute and definately with a weakness for holding onto the low gears to hear the supercharger on song at 3,000 rpm.
Awesome awesome car
I smile every day
Thanks for resuurecting this thread ..................

'As comfortable?'
I have to disagree: the E39 M5 is similarly compliant to the E55 AMG. The RS6 is another matter.
I've never gone towards the top end in an M5 but when I drove it, it seemed to be a more sporty driving set up, whereas the AMG seems to be a more comfortable set up...I have to disagree: the E39 M5 is similarly compliant to the E55 AMG. The RS6 is another matter.
I've not had much experience in the M5 so I may be wrong though...
Fair comment, Vinne - I can assure you that the E39 M5 possesses otherworldy damping at deep, deep three figuredom.
I love the E55 massively, though; it's the one car (even out of all the modern jobs) which has a truly memorable delivery and one which feels faster than the current '63 variant.
I couldn't believe how generally solid it feels (have driven quite a few.)

Apparently quicker until it gets to really high speeds than the E63, and definately quicker than the C63 (which felt really slow compared to the E55).I love the E55 massively, though; it's the one car (even out of all the modern jobs) which has a truly memorable delivery and one which feels faster than the current '63 variant.

The power delivery is what makes it feel so fast - never compared side by side but the kick seemed more than my current 997 Turbo!
Ah, Vinnie, great minds must think alike!
Both HRH Dazren of The West Country and I commented on this when first we were kindly granted the keys to the 997tt at a V-Max event.
Coming as we both did/do, from the former 996 'bam' factor, we both commented on the linearity of the new Turbo's delivery.
In a similar vein to the description of what happens re E55 v E63.
Interesting point re the C63 - haven't been so honoured yet but would have imagined it to be volcanic!

Its a good engine - no doubt, also a reliable one - i have it in the CLS55 flavour and thses cars at £30k for a 06 are really good value, I have decided a RS6 is my next car to replace the CLS but not for 9 months at least as the Audis have a long way to fall before I put my cash into one.
