Had my E55 seviced today at the local MB franchise and had change from £400 beer Was advised that it will soon need new tyres all around with the front tyres down to 2.5 mm on the inside edges but the back still have 3.5 mm on them after 10k miles clap an all time record. Over the last 10,500 miles the car has averaged 20.9 mpg.

Had a good look at the new E class as well and still don`t no if I like it, will have to see what the new 6.3 AMG looks like before I jump ship to an RS6 estate. The AMG wont get used so much after this month, the Ferrari is put away in the Garage for winter and the ML270 cdi takes over for the daily runs with the E55 used just for going out in.

The AMG should come into its own this week end, early morning start to Plymouth on Sunday with the wife and kids for a 1 o`clock kick off then back home again . A nice little 850 mile round trip and cant think of any car I would rather do it in.

When I took in for the last service it needed a new door handle on the drivers side due to the keyless sensor going bad, when they fitted it they didnt get it right and it makes a lot of noise at speed. Every time they have had the car I have asked them also to fix the auto out system on the front seat because when the seat returns to its position on re entry it never stops in the right place.

So this time when I asked them to look at the seat for the 3rd or 4th time and also to fix the door handle on properly you would think fixing them would be an easy job for them . So why did they not bother do you think ?

1) They just could not be botherd ?.
2) Typical mercedes Benz standard of work man ship ?
3) They dont have a clue how to fix it ?.
4) or are they being paid by Audi and BMW to make shure that another loyal long term customer jumps ship ?.

I then had a realy good idea that I would call Mercedes Benz of Nottingham and book it in there to have it done. I called them at 4.00 pm to book it in, they took my number and do you think they have called me back ? Have they fk.

I think its number 3 and number 1. I think I have finnaly had it with Mercedes and this will be my last one.

Really tempted by these............ As they start to hit £15-17k they are getting harder and harder to ignore!!

Can anyone comment on the reliability? Scares me buying one from a non dealer but there really arent many otherwise!

Mechanically quite reliable, it's just everything else that goes wrong with them!

I personally would be very worried about owning one without some sort of warranty to help me out!

Had mine 2 months now. Came with an intermittent centiral locking problem and the cd changer doesn't work, but everything else works beautifully! Engine is awesome still, to my ears! Great, great car! There's nothing on the road I'd want more!

I would concur with your warrenty issure given my recent experience. 06 plate currently 23K, cutting story short, put into local MB garage 12-14 months back complaining of oil useage, their reply at time, was it was all within MB parmeters. Approx 6K and 1 track day later, which MB know about, in fact it was their AMG day invite, then 4 months later re complained to MB about computor asking for oil, they took it in, took engine out, supplied and put complete new engine back in , told the cost was of the region of 23K plus. It turns out MB covered 95% of this cost and my tier 1 warrenty, (£1100PA) covered the remaining 5%. I know of 2 other 55 engines that that have been replaced with low miles( 1 no. SL and 1 no.E class), given the cost of this exercise, I could,nt personally own a car of this cost without warrenty, to risky for me, could never have afforded this replacement engine cost. This said, these are great cars, and whilst I have considered parting with mine,( as Jules knows), every time I drive it, I change my mind, great car, they seem to be basically very solid, but for me got to have a warrenty!
