S320 CDI - Turbo fixed, but now its not the same

Hi all,
posted up a few weeks back asking for some help in sourcing parts for a replacement turbo and all associated parts to go with it. Thanks to Mikey_W for coming to the rescue.
Fast forward to now and the new turbo is in (brand new Garrett unit) and all seals etc have been changed as per requirements.
The thing is that before the turbo was engaging at about 2-2.5krpm and providing full boost before it went pop. now with the new turbo in, and the CAT cleaned out, the turbo is not engaging until about 3.5-4krpm and this is making performance very sluggish. im guessing that either there are fault codes registered that need to be cleared off or the ECU needs a re-set.
I can get the fault codes cleared off by my technician, but does anybody know of a 'quick fix' way of resetting the ECU? is there anything like pulling a fuse out for a few seconds and then putting it back in that will re-set the ECU? or will the thing have to be hooked up to a computer of some sort and be re-set that way?
any ideas welcome

I thought disconnecting the battery for a few hours would do the trick. The alternative is to get a tech II code reader and clear them that way, all local garages have them and should not charge you too much to use it. That said, it is a waste of money if the reset is not the answer.Anyone have an idea on how to reset the ECU?

Resetting the thing is just a hunch. Not entirely sure if it is the right thing to do, but the mapping is just way off basically and the car literally is running on the engine's power with the turbo barely kicking in.
No idea how it can be sorted out or if anything else needs to be replaced when installing a new turbo with all seals/gaskets.
Double checked and it is the correct Turbo from Garret and it is brand new. Done about 250 miles so far with the new turbo, so it is 'bedded in'.

Anyway i've asked the question & our techie says you should check the vacuum pipe/hose that attaches to the turbo, sometimes these don't get fitted back on properly or it could be the vacuum transducer, which the pipe connects to at the other end... hope this makes sense

I can't get a diagram at the moment sorry, but the vacuum transducer is near the air filter, if you follow the vacuum pipe from the turbo backwards, it should lead you too it.. (sorry to be a bit vague!)would it be possible to get a diagram of this and where it goes?

I managed to get a hold of the two Vacuum transducers for my S class from my local MB stealer, as when I had the car hooked up to a diagnostic machine, it flashed up two faults for these items, so off I went and picked them up.

I managed to get a hold of the two Vacuum transducers for my S class from my local MB stealer, as when I had the car hooked up to a diagnostic machine, it flashed up two faults for these items, so off I went and picked them up.
Now I know where one of them goes, which is next to the coolant tank/air filter. Where the wastegate & vacuum pipes from the turbo goes into. I just can’t seem to find where the other one fits…
The turbo/seals/pipes etc have all been installed earlier. I just need to get these two pumps fitted and then it should all be full power as normal.

Just to report back and say that it is all fixed and the car is now running with full boost/power! the level of accelleration is astonishing! (probably because i've been driving with no boost for the past 2 months!)

Just glad its all sorted and running 100%. Now looking to sell the car and get a W221! The search begins...

Sorry to hear about the turbo going. Not good news.
I paid +/-£770 for a brand new Garrett turbo from Euro Car Parts (with a £56 surcharge refund when you give them the old unit) back in Feb 2009 and bought the rest of the pipes/seals/gaskets/nuts etc from Mercedes Benz. I did the work myself with the help of a cousin of mine that is a VW technician. It was all done as cheap as possible and still ended up costing roughly £1.1k.
My advice would be (if this is possible) to get all geniune parts which are new, and be prepared to spend over a grand getting them all together and then get them fitted as cheaply as possible (if you can do it yourself, then all the better!) from a technician you can trust and that has a bit of experience.
Mikey_W helped me out quite a lot back then in finding out an exact list of parts that I needed in order to replace the turbo. Hopefully he, or someone else that works in the MB network can help with part numbers and prices etc.
Finally good luck with the repairs, and hope the 210 is back on the road ASAP!

For a remanufactured turbo, try Turbo Developments in Brentford http://www.turbodevelopments.co.uk/contact.php
They charge £470 for a remanufactured Garrett turbo with the old unit given in exchange. Good, honest service.
