Help Driving Lessons
Discussion
Yesterday at a car auction I purchased a SLK 200k 2dr Reg. 2007 Automatic Mercedes car for my daughter, and tomorrow I need to collect the same. The trouble is I have never driven an automatic, so hoping someone might give a novice some urgent driving lessons for this make & model of car, thanks.
Easiest way is to disable your left leg completely.
Forget it, do not use it. Please.
Start car, right foot on brake pedal, into D, move right foot to gas pedal.
Stopping is the reverse procedure. right foot only. Initially, keep it in drive whilst waiting at junctions/lights etc., using the parking brake if really required. (The only pedal your left foot needs to venture towards)
When parking, move selector to P whilst still on footbrake with right foot. Parking brake if required.
Reason is that, as you're used to driving a manual, you'll left foot brake using the same pressure you would on a clutch, thereby throwing yourself (and any passengers) forwards at an alarming velocity.
Windscreens/steering wheels hurt.
Trust me, right foot only. (Once you get familiar with it it's slightly different)
