CLK 500 knock when braking

If I stamp on the brakes I get a loudish knock from the front passenger side of the card (wheel area). Is this likely to be suspension or the brake pads (pad knock off??)

If I brake normally no knocking sound, also suspension does not knock over bumps etc. Anybody else had similar? It's a 2002 W209
