So theyve got 195 brake and oodles of torque id imagine, only 8 to sixty but thats enough.. What are the real world running costs of these, servicing, fuel & are they reliable?

Found what looks to be a nice one with 72k on it for 4995 with all the toys..

Rust is the biggest problem on Mercs of this age, specifically around the wheel arches, headlamps and boot lock.

OMG, he is not joking, I've seen some horrors, I'd think you'd need to see a few to believe it.

Such a shame, as otherwise they are lovely cars.

IF your not that good at looking for the bodges people do to hide it, take someone with you who is.

If it is in good nick, and is genuine, it'd be a lot of nice car for the money, in my humble opinion, just think how much that would have cost new.

I am not ! I thought Mercs were something special with regards to their bodywork. How deluded am i ! Maybe ill go for a 5 series / a6 then ! Even if I did find something "good" the chances are it could just rot away on me - dont like cleaning sills and arches etc... Yeah theyre 30/40k cars i guess but rust, may as well get a senator / omega rolleyes !

Even a 5 series will rust eventually, with our climate.

If you find a good one, of whatever make takes your fancy, and you plan on keeping it for a few years, get it treated with waxoyl, or dinitrol (spelling ?), it won't cost much, and largely saves you all the hassle of keeping the ste out of "ste collection areas".

Me, my cousin and my friend all have the facelift (2000-) W210 E320 cdis, and yes rust can be an issue.. but alot of cars have already been taken in for rust work, i managed to get merc to pay for a new bonnet/boot/2wings and some other work which came to £3500. happy days mate.
just try and get one with full Merc main dealer Service history, as i bought mine a few years ago, i was a bit subborn. i would deffo get it checked by a AA/RAC or a merc specialist to make sure everything is working well, as i have spent around £3000 on my car since i had it as i bought one that wasnt in the best shape, and my 'specialist garage' was having me on for a year and not doing the job properly! but i have found this amazing specialist garage that is amazing in Birmingham, top lads!

but, never the less, they are amazing cars!! lots of power, decent economy, smooth ride, absolute comfort i wouldnt want to get rid of it. forget the bmw 5, or the a6, i tried both but they wernt as comfy to drive in as the Merc.
Mine is now on 170k, and it doesnt feel like it at all!! you wont regret it trust me
any more queries just let me know.

Mrs D's E320Cdi is up for sale at the mo. The only reason for sale is that we need a 6 seater vehicle. Good on fuel averaging around 37mpg on mixed driving, (Mrs D sometimes thinks she is Jenson Button's pace driver), tyres and servicing are average for the quality of the vehicle although cheaper than my A8 servicing!

Lovely smooth ride, wafts you down the road in silence but has a surprising turn of speed when required.

If anyone is interested in a 2000 E320CDi Elegance, Obsidian black, new tyres, grey leather interior with only 65K on the clock for around £5k pm me.
