How has your merc performed in the snow?

My E320 estate is great in the snow due to the tyres but sadly it is stuck in front of the CLK which is dreadful in these conditions and I can't move the damn thing. As soon as I try, it starts to slip and I can't even dig it out as I'm suffering with a bad back after falling on the ice 2 weeks ago.
At the moment I'm using the wifes KA which is brilliant in the snow and seems to cut through everything. I just need to get over the embarassment of turning up to the office in it though.

Don't know about the C43 - stuck a new F1 on the rear shortly before abandning it on my drive last Thursday. Still useless on summer tyres....
Pressed the OH's Clio into service for long weekend trip - London->Oxfordshire->Norfolk->Oxfordshire->London trip.
Ahh....fwd....traction...ahh...I'd forgotten what it was like. :=)

Well i've just bought a W203 C200k for my daily runner, has every option known to man including some lovely 18" AMG wheels with nice fat tyres.
After driving round in our Freelander for the past week through the snow with not even the slightest problem i have to say the C Class is the worst car i've ever driven in the snow
It's gets beached on flat compacted snow to the point that it took six people to rock me out of the car park at work. I'd have more grip if i fitted a pir of canoes to the rear wheels.
That said I couldn't care less as the car is fantastic and when the snows gone i'll be enjoying it even more.

My E55k Estate has been great, it is shod with Vredestein Wintrac Extremes which may explain it though!
New Years Day
Boxing Day
Is that you digging it out for a couple of quick laps of Kockhill then?New Years Day

Digging? never went near a shovel, it just cruised out!
Mind you, I wouldn't be on the snow tyres on the track, they might melt.
My C63 'fell' into my hedge that runs alongside my driveway....thanks to a slight gradient and lots of ice on my block paved drive!
Maybe I should have checked the tyres before the bad weather but I seriously didn't expect to have to replace bald rear tyres on a car that had done just 4.5k miles! Oh well, after replacing them, the car went from nearly impossible to drive to being just appalling! I'm loving this 'dryish' weather at the moment!

Mine was unusable.
I did use Mrs Orb(s) C220CDi to go and visit my grandma - nobody elses car had a problem except ours - utterly immobile. Some blokes helped push it out of a parking space and then it just got stuck again. Utterly ste!
I had to get my mum to come and tow me out...
Note the totally flat surface.

My CLS 55 AMG was about as much use as the proverbial chocolate tea pot. Even with all driver assists off I could not get any control over the back end. Spent an hour trying to remove the snow and compacted ice from my gravelled drive - gave up in a sweaty heap of frustration. My Z4 was no good either - had to go into work in the family Ford Galaxy, with a pair of wellies and a spade in the boot, much to the bemusement of my colleagues who had hardly any snow just 14 miles up the road.
I only used my 206 this year in snow which I have to say was pretty good.. no abs though.
My old 190 has ASD which will give you (up to) 100% diff lock up at under 26mph, but although this prevents the 'one wheel on ice stuck' scenario I'm not sure it helps massively apart from that - because although it will probably wheelspin less, once it does wheelspin the back starts going sideways and it's more scary than a FWD car where you can still direct which way the spinning wheels should go. On the continent you can get 4wd examples of BMWs and Mercedes saloons which probably says they know about their ineffectualness in snow....
I used to be driven to school in a 300TE 4matic .
