Does anyone know where I could get a dipstick to check the transmission fluid level on an 04 CL500?

You can buy them from the dealer. The level should be checked with the engine running at 80 deg C and the transmission in Park.

Yeah its a dealer, part No 140 589 15 21. £37 unless you can do better.
3.5-4l on an oil and filter change, check as per r129sl.
