The abc/pas pump aka tandem pump can fail and it's costly. So check pas / abc Fuild for signs I'd debris, it's colour and smell. Corrosion on wheel arches, under door handles and along the join between the roof and the body. Check boot lid for rust. When driving a knock or rumble at slow speeds over uneven ground usually indicates control arms need replacing.

would seem most mercs have the dreaded tin worm of this era.
i'm assuming engine/gearboxs usually ok?
anyone tell me what the build quality is like on them?like i say,had a few mercs from this era(clk/e55)and found them ok.

I have a late 03 cl55 amg kompressor.
Build quality is average I'd say. I looked at about 10 before I settle on this one, various degrees of build quality seen.

The engine in mine is and has been very good, I've had a few isses with some of the ancilaries like abc tandam pump and on my model the pump that supplies coolant to the supercharger body is know to pack up.

If I compare it to the 03 SL55AMG I had before I'd say the build quality of the CL is superior but I would also say to avoid a CL that hasn't been cared for.

I love driving mine, especially over long distances, it's more comfy than my rangerover was.

It can be a bit tricky accessing the rear seats, new baby on the way and I'm thinking the cl isn't the most sensible
vehicle to have, but then if I'd been thinking sensibly I wouldn't have bought the amg version either.
