Hi Guys

My wife has a 320 CLK 2001,

She has just phoned and said that she had difficulty in starting and now she has the yellow Engine Diagnostic Indicator lamp on

The car is driving OK. Hnadbook says it could be injectors, emissions or exhaust.
Any suggestions and should she be driving it

Thanks

Further on to this fault which has been intermittent. I.e no problem for a week or so.
Then tonight the car would turn over but wouldnt start. I unplugged the AFM and then the car would start but with a engine diag lamp. Twenty minutes later all was well again.

The car is 8 years old with 60K miles. On searches here it mentions that the AFM can cause the lamp issue but would it cause the car not to start.

No other symptoms. An AFM is only £30 but is it likely to be the problem.

Thanks

Hi Guys

car has been running fine for 2 weeks but today after leaving the car for about 40 minutes today it wouldnt start and just turns over

Any ideas . It must be linked to the Engine diagnostic lamp issue as it started at the same time.

Would an AFM problem cause this .

Thanks

Trev

You really need to get the car plugged into a star machine for the definitive answer as there are so many things that will throw up the lamp. Even the MAF. Had an Slk with about a pint of oil in the intercooler which everytime you drove it hard the dreaded engine light would illuminate.

Just an update,
Took the car to a local Auto Electrical garage who has the required diagnostinc software ETC.

There were 4 entries that could possibly cause the problem. So they did a reset and advised to wait for another occurance so that there will only be one entry. (hopefully).

They didnt charge a penny which I thought was excellent service

Been Ok for the past week

Surely they could of checked fault frequency... how many times the fault has occured & then progressed from there..?

Car has failed to start again seems to be getting worse.

I have have taken it to the previous Auto Electrical shop where it showed on the diagnostic that the Crank sensor was failing. They have ordered part and waitng for part to come in and be fitted.
