No real love for the SLK?

Drove a late SLK 280 yesterday. It was fabulous, enough power for the wife at 230bhp (it'd be her car with me having the odd thrash in it), the roof is just amazing and far better than any rag-top and the air-scarf is wonderful! And - I could get into it comfortably, as I just simply cannot get into the S2000, Boxter, 911. It's also less lardy looking than the SL and a prettier nose.
So, why do folks malign it so much?

That model SLK (i.e. the current model) was not maligned - it was very well reviewed as being a proper sporting car and big improvement over the original SLK. Not quite a Porsche beater or even Z4 beater but still given good praise as a driver's car. They do a 350 with manual box which is very unlike Merc and probably shows what they were aiming at with the car. If only it didn't look so........... ?
The previous SLK is a pretty bad drive but if you think of it as a smaller, lower compact C-class it's a decent enough machine to get about in.

Other than a hard to find water leak into the boot

fast, comfortable and enjoyable to drive
we took it to Monaco 2years ago this year we are off to Italy
Roof is perfect as you get the real benefit of a hard top and the joy of
no roof, servicing not out of the way Price wise,
