It broke. Advices?

I got me a 57 reg Merc Cls. I've had it around two weeks and have been having a couple of problems. It had a fresh MOT when I picked it up.
Firstly when I start it, the dash backlight flickers ever so slightly, normally accompanied by an engine warning light. I've contacted them about this, and they've agreed to look at it.
I went to the car this morning and it won't start. Or it wouldn't. Just churns over and over, doesn't sound as if the battery is dwindling or anything. Tried with a starter pack too. No go. Possibly alternator?
I've also had to top up the coolant as the warning light came on, so they can have a look at that too.
