An interloper as have borrowed the car from my old man for the week.

The front fogs keep coming on - either together or one at a time - when the lights are set to auto. Is this usual? Anything I can do to stop it without turning off the auto lights?

Cheers

They are designed to do that. If you turn the steering wheel to the left the left one comes on and guess what.............

It helps you see round corners in the dark, unfortunately they also come on during the day if the lights come on automatically which mine do frequently even when you don't want them to. The solution is to operate the headlights on manual only.

Can't wait to be pulled by the BiB for having one foglight on (or off ) and tell them to speak to Mercedes because that's the way they designed it.

Actually it is a very useful feature in the dark. It has stopped me from hitting small walls etc when turning into tight driveways.
