Disable front airbag for kiddies seat

As the title says really chaps, little one on the way & I need to disable the front airbag on my 2001 CLK. Looking in the handbook it says 'special childseats are required that can be obtained from Merc dealers'

Does this really mean I can only buy seats from Mercedes that then wont be compatable with the rest of the baby travel system we were going to buy or is there another way way to disable it?

We also have a Smart coupe & were looking to disable the bag on that, I bet its not the same disable device!

Yep!!


There is a sensor in the seat and the carseat that disables the airbag.

I heard there was a third party mat you could buy to disable it, but never managed to find it.
