I'm far from skilled (thank you though)... the man behind the paint gun, and my 'mentor' is the skilled one. I've certainly learnt alot though... I've had to.

I'm glad you all like the project so far! Just having a breather before another push to get it rolling on its subframe and wheels.

Your car still looks great! If I hadnt put myself off resto's I'd love to get one of those one day.

Excuse the lack of updates. Loom is in, car has been flatted back, some panels are polished and finished. Carbs are looking like new...

I'll get some pics up soon, but off the Ring this weekend to break the TVR smile

Dont be jealous... its a mega burden/money pit!

Not an expert on these, I'm assuming it's a 190, and you're not in the running for Pebble Beach! Rudges get my vote; wires are a bit too boulevarderesque, and the 190 already needs help with that. How about a blower? The 4-pot isn't very grunty, and MB have used superchargers for both track and road cars. Alternatively, would a 6 out of a fintail fit in the engine bay?
Yes , the six would fit : a small number were produced with the M180 out of the 220 , later morphed into the 230SL .

I did look at the Judson blowers... they seem far more trouble than they are worth, and they put a fair amount of stress on the already fragile bearings in this 3 cylinder.

I like the idea of Rudge wheels wink

I may well kill this thread now until the car is running, and then post all images on a new thread. Early followers can pm for updates.

Thanks

I do follow it, just havent posted - I am sure many do the same. Keep it going (unless its going to be finished soon, then I would wait and do a full run down in Readers Cars where more will get to see it).

Cracking project.

Well let me know you're all alive... I assumed people were off chasing faster AMG threads. Good to know a couple of you are still holding thumbs up wink

The pistonheads feedback is actually very important to this project.

Case in point, I have found a company that does rudges (pic from site below)... I'm looking at 15" and that should allow me to drop the ride hight down enough to get the look I'd like (all with around £240's worth of custom springs). From looking at a zillion images I have decided that 16" and above look oversized for the arches, and look a bit 'halfords'.

Just took delivery of the carbon heated seat pads I'm installing (with hidden switches). The leather has been shipped and I hope to take delivery later this week/early next. Once the leather's here I'll get the dash covered and the screen back in.

External chrome is all being re-plated (waiting on quotes) and the new tail light lenses have now rolled up.

I have emailed 'Classic & Sports Car' mag to see if the'd be interested in a feature... but any other suggestions?

Thanks

Stu

Glad you guys are still enjoying the (slow) progress.

Guess what I just took delivery of, its another 1958 Merc smile

I know this one isnt as popular as the SL, but I think it could be a pretty cool car all the same. I wont be spending much time or money on this one though... and I doubt I'll touch it for 6 months. What do we think?
