Hey Chris :-)
Thanks for sorting out my pictures! lol
You're right, what turns a Mercedes into an AMG is the power plant.
The engine is a mentalist, with power available right up through the rev range.
Although I really do love the Mercedes side to this car too.
I love the looks and the interior.
There are too many straight lines being designed into newer Mercedes these days.
Don't get me wrong, they look great, but I'm not a fan of too many straight lines, especially in the cockpit.
The CLK interior is very enveloping with great curves designed into the dash. Every area seems to have been thought about in the design process, whereas some of the newer cars have dead, straight lines which imply they're just filling space - joining one area to another for the sake of it.
But that's just my opinions.
I have driven the C63. I did an AMG driving day at Brooklands soon after getting my car.
They didn't have a CLK63 to drive so I made do with the C.
The CLK63 has more power as standard but the Brooklands track is too small to highlight the differences to be honest.
The C's were then made available with PP and then PPP, so power output was brought more into line with the CLK.
They're both luxury/prestige cars that are alittle too heavy to be true drivers cars, but then that's not really what they're about.
You can have just as much fun in either car!
I drove a C63 Black Series a couple of weeks back and was alittle underwhelmed.
In the C Black's defence, I wasn't really able to exercise it very much so I couldn't exploit its handling capabilities too much.
I did note that the ride was extremely hard though. Great for track, but I suspect it would get on your nerves alittle.
I like a firm ride but it really was alittle too harsh.
Power-wise, It's on par with mine and other 63's with the M156 engine, so it didn't really impress too much in that respect.
But if you are unfamiliar with 63's it is definitely a hoot!
C Black Series looks awesome, as does the CLK Black Series (my favourite of them all - although the SL Black looks proper evil) but really did seem just like a C63 once behind the wheel.
I'm sure it'll drive great once on track though!
As for the CLK63 being a cheaper alternative to the C63.. that may well be, but you will be hard pushed to find a fine example as there are not many around at all.
I've always liked coupes, so it was always going to be the CLK for me.
I'm not a fan of convertibles either, so I was even more thrilled to have found a hard top.

Thanks for taking the trouble to write all that down! After reading it and going off to the PH classifieds I see what you mean about them being few and far between. I actually do like convertibles and have a feeling a CLK63 convertible would be the biggest smile of all...in a straight line at least! Thanks for sorting out my pictures! lol

I've done the AMG driving experience at Brooklands a couple of times: first time in an SL63 with the N/A engine and then earlier this year in an E63 with the new twin turbo engine. I definitely preferred the old one.

No worries, sorry if I waffled on abit! lol
Yes, there are not many CLK63's around.
There's a guy on MBClub who is desperately seeking a hard-top version.
I have encouraged him to keep looking and resist the temptation to settle for something else.
You'll definitely have fun in a convertible if that's what you'd prefer ;-)
I haven't driven an AMG with the new 63 engine yet.
I'm sure it is great - but I prefer the N/A principle to forced induction.
I certaintly appreciate the power to be had from turbos and superchargers but I like the idea of an engine doing what it does naturally. Just seems like cheating otherwise :-D
