Heres my 2003 e320 cdi estate avantguarde. Spec includes Distronic (radar cruise), SBC brakes, Full airmatic all round, powered tailgate and boot floor, command satnav, heated electric memory seats, 4-zone climate control, Auto Xenon Lights and auto wipers, Front and Rear PDC. Colour is technically Almandine Green, but to all intents and purposes is vitually black metallic, and looks amazing when its clean. Oh - and did I mention its done 202,000 miles?

Colleague swung in by this afternoon for a wee visit in his E63.
Thought it would be rude not to fire off a few shots.

Very nice indeed. I think the old shape E Class has aged really well and is still a very handsome car.

Whilst ordering some bits from the local dealership i walked out and spotted this lovely thing in the line up, certainly nicer than the bloated moderns rolleyes ...and then i remembered it was mine whistle

What engine is that Daryl? I've just sold my third car because I didn't use it (an E34 535i Sport) but now I've got a space in the garage, the itch for an R129 500SL is quite strong...

Its the 500 matey, i've wanted a R129 for years and when the prices started to firm up about a year ago. I knew i had to get one. I tested a few 300 and 320's but for the size of the car they just didn't have anything special about them. The car is undeniably a cruiser but its nice when you give it the beans in the 500, it can really shift! ....it also makes a noise like an angry bear rolleyes

It tends to go 2 ways with these, people coming into them listening to all the hype about it being an uber built tank but being disappointed that actually the plastics here and there are shockingly flimsy, it has the standard 1980-1990 vague'o Mercedes steering and various electrical issues are quite common.

Me and the majority of long term owners though appropriate what exactly the car is all about thumbup

I just love driving it, at 98k and 24 years old its still smooth across country, makes a lovely noise (angry Bear) its comfortable, its not very flashy or look at me so people tend to let you out of junctions as normal, the problems that plague them all nowadays are all age related and can generally be dealt with cheaply and correctly by specialists.

I love my SL biggrin

They are rather lovely. I reckon unmolested cars will go up gradually over time so now is probably the time to buy. Though I know I'd not use it very much, so I shouldn't really.

Just for an afternoon I actually had two R172 SLK 250 CDi AMG Sports cool (I liked the first one so much I got another - I have come to the conclusion that the diesel haterz in GG are just idiots).

I much prefer the new one, the silver is actually a really light blue which shows up lovely in the sunshine. Interior is crystal grey (which looks like cream to me) with red stitching and belts (actually looks fab).

As soon as it arrived we went off to Normandy in it.

Why diesel?

Just that Mum has had a 250 petrol for the last few days, it is showing 41mpg from the first 6000 miles of its life.
I presume it must be an economy thing going cdi on a 2 seater sports car? How much more does the cdi get?

14 years old and only done 53k when I bought it, I did 46k in just over 4 years and never let me down. Great car, completely original and last of the classic MB's!
