Alarm won't turn off

I've got a 2003 C220 CDI Estate.
in the last few days when the car is locked suddenly the alarm will go off. At first the siren would blast and the hazard lights would flash but now just the hazard lights flash and all the interior lights come on.
I've checked that the air vents are closed (it's not windy). All the windows are up, the interior lights are all working and in their correct (out position). Also checked that the boot and bonnet are all shut properly. I've vacuumed the interior sensors to make sure that they are dust free.
Basically I think I've checked most obvious places but still it randomly goes off anytime from 30 secs after I've locked/alarmed the car using the key fob.
To ensure that I don't ruin the battery down I'm locking the car and then using the metal key (within the key fob) to lock the drivers door - at least that makes sure that the battery doesn't drain overnight.
I'm yet to try turning off the interior movement sensor might try that tomorrow
