Hi All,

Got a slight problem with the W208... she's dead, battery flat as a pancake. Now this poses a problem as I have only half a manual key (think the previous owner snapped the other half off in the boot lock). How can I get into her? Is there a way? once I'm into the cab, I have the tool to manually release the hood-flap and hence get to the boot tucked into the pocket behind the drivers seat, but I need to get into the cab in the first place. Is there a way? I don't really want to have to call mercedes and get ripped off and the local MB indi isn't answering his mobile.

bit drastic, but you could, if all else fails break the rear quarter window.
Can you no get any turn on the boot lock with the remainder of the manual key?

Indeed, I was looking at my insurance excess and thinking about that!
The MB indi has come back to me and suggested I get down to MB with V5 and Drivers License and they can do a new key blade, for 20 to 30 quid (as opposed to about £250 for a whole new electronic key unit) and then I can get to a "booster point" under the bonnet once I've got that.
Takes about 3 working days for a new key blade apparently, so I'll give that a go!

Whatever you do, if you have to resort to smashing any window, make it one of the rear passenger windows, as a friend of mine found out with his b5 A4.. had he smashed any side window but the quarter it would have cost him £20-30 from the scrap yard, but the best quote he could find for the quarter window was £130+ iirc as it had to be specially cut/sealed in etc.. just something to consider

Just a thought, but if you can get the car jacked up at the front you should be able to get to the battery feed to the starter solenoid. You could use this and any good earth to connect a booster battery which would then allow you to open the car with the remote.

Hope this might help.

Thinking aloud...

Desperately trying to remember what I did. Just to eliminate things we might have overlooked - do you have a spare key to start the car as both should have the manual key IIRC? Have you also tried the spare key's remote button just in case there's a problem with your main key?

From memory, I used the physical key to get into the cabin, popped the bonnet, linked a positive cable to the battery terminal, then popped the boot to deal with the dead battery. As above, you may be able to access the terminal in the engine bay but don't you have to take a cap off? Perhaps, if you lifted the car, you could lever the bonnet catch to allow the bonnet to be opened?
