Classic Merc Dealers
Discussion
I've met Stansfield and visited his premises. As car dealers go, he is OK, but he is definitely a car dealer first and an enthusiast second. His stock is good, but not as good as the copy in his adverts might cause you to think. He'll sell you the car he has got rather than the car you should buy. Just my opinion.
I have not met Peter Whatsit from Cheshire Classic Benz or seen his stock. He seems a little more human being and less car dealer than Stansfield. His stock is much better described. He is a genuine supporter of and participant in Merc Club events. So far as I can tell from his ads, people seem to buy from him time and again. My impression is more favourable but it is just an impression.
There are others. Carl Wilford of Auto Barn is universally liked in the trade. He is reputedly just a nice chap. Charles Ironside is less well-liked; most of his cars are on consignment. Prestige Motor Company in Oxfordshire a friend told me were straight forward. Nick Froome of W124 appears on here (under the user name Bolide, but he prints his real name) and seems decent enough. I have no idea about newcomers Tristar Modern Classics.
