Oooohhh.....love it.

What a gorgeous, gorgeous car. You lucky boy!!! When do you pick her up?
Thanks Greg!

Picking her up. This is the worst part...

I'm actually working in Russia at the moment and won't be back in the UK until December, hence the reason the car is going into storage until I can come back and play with it!

One of the drawbacks of my job unfortunately. The wait is going to be pretty unbearable, especially as my run about here is a funky little 1.2 litre Skoda Fabia!

However, as soon as we have a dry sunny day, the roof will be off and I will have the top down!

I really can't express quite how excited I am. It is the first really nice car I have ever bought, and I am looking forward to just touching and smelling it (does that sound odd?). It won't get used a huge amount but she will be pampered!

Well if you need anyone to give her a run every now and then to make sure nothing seizes up, then I'm sure there will be a small queue of volunteers wink

Its quite a car to start off your convertible ownership. My first convertible was a Triumph Spitfire, which was fun, but in a slighlty different way to the SL smile

Thanks for the offer!

I've got to admit that I've never really considered a convertible until I saw one of these. A friend of mine had an Astra convertible when was at uni, that is really the only time I've ever been in one!

Great work Bob. Will have to arrange a meet up, I'm in the Midlands. Would love to see how it compares to my lowly '500!!

I wondered why it was going in to a Carcoon. You've just answered that!

That would be great, I plan to enjoy the new beasty as much as I can when I'm back! I'll be in the Midlands as well before Christmas. It would be really nice to meet you and have a look round your 500 (lets's be honest, it's definitely not 'lowly'!).

Congratulations on your fantastic purchase. If you get as much enjoyment as I get from my 500 you will be happy. With your new pride and joy you should be something considerably more than any adjective I can think of. Well done.

Cheers Peter. I emailed some pictures of it over to the family at home and they think it's great! As soon as I get home and pick it up I will post up some better pics.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Good decision.

Another convert to the r129... these cars may even become popular... hey, they may even go up in value...

Enjoy the SL60 AMG: and tell us what it is like when you first get to extend it!

Wow, a proper AMG with Monoblocks, none of this silly twin headlight, COMAND, rusty wings nonsense. Congratulations.

I'm planning a trip to Europe in spring so I should be able to legally 'extend' it then! I'm sure it has far more grunt than I am ever likely to need but it will be fun experiencing it!

Again, thanks for the kind words.

I see yours is a 2001 Greenvault, that must be one of the very last of the R129s. Any photos of your pride and joy?

Thanks GreenVault. I've always loved the look of the R129 SL, that is why I was so attracted to it.

Beautiful car.

My boss had one till a couple of years ago - he loved it and only got rid of it as his kids were growing and he had to get a CLK 55

Well, after much deliberation and discussion with the OH and dealer. I've thrown caution to the wind and bought the blue SL60.

I know I'm mad, but we only live once so sod it!

The car is being given a once over and being fully detailed, then it is going into a carcoon, hooked up to an optimate and being looked after until I get back home again.

I have to admit that I haven't actually been this excited about buying a car in a long time.

Thankyou all for the information and advice you have given me, I really appreciate it.

Congratulations on your 60. I've had a 500 and still have a 60. They are both fabulous cars but the 60 is truly exceptional. I've had my 60 for a bit over three years now and it still puts a huge smile on my face every tiime I drive it. Have a great time with yours.

Hi Ian,

It's good to hear from another 60 owner. It's nice to hear people speaking so highly of the car.
I can't wait to get out in mine, I'm counting down the days until I get home again!

Looks like an interesting car (is it wrong that I quite like the colour?), though it seems to have been 'updated' a bit.

It's an early car with the later model front wings and indicators. I wonder what it's full history is like?
