This is sat nav and iPod connectivity as well and the price is £799 so maybe to much for you. It also allows usb and bluetooth music streaming so you get more than just a sat nav.

Looks OEM

I agree the 2.2 engine does seem a bit “diesely”, certainly compared to the BM equivalent. Also agree when a stand alone sat nav costs around a hundred quid you do wonder quite now Merc can charge what they do. Perhaps that is why relatively few second hand cars seem to have the option fitted. One possible approach, if buying from a Merc dealer is to get one fitted as part of the purchase haggling. They sell for about 800 but certainly wont cost the dealer that.

I have been trying to convince myself to get a 220 but a new one with a few options is in my opinion over priced for what it is, the sport is spoilt by a crashy ride and silly gear change switches behind the wheel, I wonder if anybody actually uses them. Having said that the 320 BM also has a crashy ride because of the run flats. More of a concern however is the value. I would imagine as a few more BE versions appear on the used market the non BE ones will take a fair hit.

Thanks Slacker for the link...I did see this unit online, but I am guessing that is £800 plus the fitting...

The latest option I have thought of is buying a mercedes unit online (ebay) which is looking at in the region of £500. The advantage would be that this would be the full COMMAND system and therefore would give the full sized motorised screen as opposed to the mini nav...

Only thing is I have 0% technical knowledge with these kind of things and so I would need to get it fitted form somebody...and don't think Mercedes themselves would be a good option...does anybody know if this fitting is a complicated process for a professional? Or is it likely to be done at reasonable price?

Steve - I have not collected the car and I believe I have made the right choice...I have owned a few mercedes before, and whilst it isn't as smooth a ride as a petrol V6, it does have the distinctive mercedes feel when driving - smooth steering and comfortable ride. I did look at 320 bmw - which would have been more eceonomical also, by the way, but was put off by the fact that the ride would certainly be more harsh. In terms of the engine noise, I guess I will just have to get used to this - but it wasn't as bad as I first thought.
This is a great resource for Comand retrofit info http://www.mercupgrades.com/W203+C-class-7.html

This one shows you how to remove the head unit

I have never done a COMAND retrofit but I think the add on upgrade would be the more straight forward project IMHO of course.
