Try posting on www.slkworld.com you will get a much better response. I have a SLK 55 and it's a great car. Not that much difference to the 350. I think these cars are very underestimated. Downside is, not much choice for colour, so they tend to look a bit samey if you know what I mean.
the two cars being referred to above are completely different, the slk 350 is an excellent car,i have one,i had an sl350 when my sl500 was being repaired ,its very underpowered although looks very nice, the engine felt "buzzy"
if you can afford it, i would for the bigger engined sl every time,if performance is on your top ten must haves then walk away from the sl350

without being too negative about it,they're not that reliable, although i can only give you my experience of mine
in the ten months i had my sl it had over eight thousand pounds of warranty work done,i traded it in needing a further four thousand pounds spent
the 350 sl doesnt have the air suspension of the bigger ones and tends to lean round the corners making it not so fun or quick to drive
they are lovely to look at like you said, and all the above probably wont concern your wife,i wish you luck in whatever you decide

Can't agree on the reliability front, reckon you must have just been unlucky. Have a new SL350 now for 3 months, 2k miles and I chose it because of the experience I had with the same engine in the ML for the past 5 years and 40k. In short, rock solid, no problems whatsoever, does exactly what it says on the tin.
So far with the SL I find it smooth, solid, comfortable - all the things you assoicate with a Mercedes. I don't throw it around but the handling is positive, plenty of feel from the steering. Response in standard auto mode can be a little underwhelming, but I'm finding that I use the stick and the paddles far more to compensate for that and it's actually quite fun. It's also pretty novel to have a car which is still pretty quick and yet turns in up to 30 mpg.
