Got a very very comfortable E Class with very boring balloon 16" alloys that requires 4 tyres, I can buy 4 x 18" wheels & tyres for only £150 more than 4 x 16'' decent tyres but am I going to totally spoil my nice comfy ride and with Glasgows mutant pot hole explosion, is it worth while, last car had 18" with 45 profile and I had to replace 2/3 in 2 years just due to bulges in sidewall due to mutant pot holes. 16" look rubbish but very comfy & it's coming into mutant pot hole mating season, winter!!!

Before someone says keep the 16" for winter and 18" for summer that wouldnt help cause I would still need to buy 16" tyres and why are they so expensive, are they just a fat, weird, difficult to get a hold of size these days cause everything is running a minimum of 17"??

I also have a cooper s for fun on 17'' and I get fed up playing pot hole hopscoth!!

Dilema, dilema , dilema!!

My E runs 17's and 245/45's (IIRC).

I test drove one on 16's and mine is little harsher.

I'd be a little cautious about 18's as one of the reasons I bought an E was for a pillowy ride round town (London) and some say the 18's can be a bit harsh.

Personally I'm tired of very low profile tyres on broken London roads and will try not to go back.

Having said that the 18's on the facelift Sports look fabulous. The 16's are arguably a little small (if you're worried about that sort of thing). So I'd say 17's are a good compromise - they fill the arches a little better without ruining the ride.

Angus

Thanks for your comments, i just dont think putting 17's on would do enough cosmetically.

Think I've made my mind up to stay with 16's, hit a few fantastic potholes/ craters recently that has convinced me.

Thanks again

I'd stick with the 16's - I've got 18s and the GFs car 17s and the ride on the terrible roads we have now can best be described as awful.
