Hi Guys

I am considering a 3 year old or so Mercedes M or a Porsche Cayenne of a similar age. Can anyone give any advice. The M's seem toall be diesel, what is the fuel economy like between the two? The Ms also only have part leather seats. Any other tips or advices, thanks? Would the Cayenne be a lot harder to sell in a few years?

Ive had both and to be honest theres not alot in it imo.

All Cayenne up until about a year or two ago will be petrol but I would avoid the V6 as its a bit on the harsh side compared to the V8s and completely spoils the drive.

MLs are mostly diesel but you may find the odd 500 petrol lurking about. A good comprimise if you can find one is the V8 diesel (eiter 420 cdi or 450 cdi). The only ML which is quicker is the ML63 amg! However it still returns 25 -30 mpg.

Dont worry about the part leather in the sport, the other part is Alcantara (man made suede) and is very comfy. You'll also find this the upholstery of choice in the Cayenne GTS.

Which ever one you go for in the end, try and find one with air suspension as dynamically they are superior in both cars.

Servicing, Id expect the Porsche to be dearer (I remember disks and pads on my Cayenne turbo coming in at nearly £2k!!)

Agree with the above - I dont thinl there's much in it - I've had a few Cayennes as loan cars and they were fine but when it came down to practicality I went with the 420 V8 diesel ML. Its a bit of a truck, but manages over 500 miles on a tank, goes pretty well and hasnt been unreasonably expensive to maintain. Its the so-called sport version but still an ok cruiser. I think its up for replacement shortly so could be worth hanging around for a bargain.

I might be dreaming but it also felt a bit bigger inside than the Cayenne....
