Hi can anyone advise type of oil to use in the roof pump and is it worth changing it and the best way to go about it

which model of sl are you referring to ?
If its the w230 model series the the Mercedes part number for the roof oil you need is 000 989 91 03 & you will need a filler syringe tool (230 589 01 63 00) to put the oil into the roof pump.
Why do you want to change the oil ? There should be no need to replace the oil unless the sytem has developed a leak or you have changed one of the hydraulic rams for some reason.
Personally if the roofs working ok then its like the old saying goes - if it ain't broke, don't touch it !

HI model is r129 i just thought it may benifit from some new oil its a 96 model prob never been changed but like you say if its not broke dont f about with it thank for reply regards,

It is beneficial to change the oil periodically , and the R129 uses the same ZHM mineral oil as the self levelling system in the estate cars and some other models .

I've heard people mention this but not sure why? The oil won't get contaminated and is hardly worked hard enough to degrade.
