So, I have put a deposit down on the 4C a few weeks ago but even the dealer was very sketchy on detail.

Can anyone in the know shed any light? This is what I have been told:-

Not sure whether will be RHD, could just be LHD

He reckoned there would be around 150 per year into the UK from 1500 total being made which should help residuals

250bhp from the 1.75 Turbo (perhaps they should wait for the new 300bhp 1.8bhp engine currently under development for the USA market)

They are allocating them based on a system only known to Alfa but having a 'decent' car now and having owned Alfas before all helps (apparently). The dealer took this information to fax to the factory.

Cost will be circa £45k

Delivery is Q4 2012 (which I suspect means Q1 2013 but I hope to be proved wrong on that)

That's it......anyone know any more?

Dealers are taking deposits but this has not been authorised by Alfa UK or Italy, so you are putting a deposit down on something that may or may not be delivered.

If it does turn up, expect it around 2013.

There really isn't much info on it. Even the Italians haven't decided on all the details...

It will most likely have a revision of the TCT auto gearbox.

Are you sure about that? If so, why did he take a load of detail about what cars I own / Alfas I have previously owned to 'fax through' to Alfa

Obviously he could be bullstting but he has no need as I was going to give him my cash no matter.

If it's anything like the cock up Alfa made with the 8C and 8C Spider then Alfa GB will do their best to alienate any potential customers. As i've said before if you have left a sizeable deposit with a dealer make sure it's being used for the purpose it was meant to be and not just propping up the coffers of the dealer. A certain indiviual at Alfa GB with the initials of DD will no doubt be involved so you can guarantee it will be handled in a totally unprofessional manner.

I'm a bit confused by what is going on here.I have lodged an "expression of interest" with my local dealer who did not seem in any rush to take a deposit.

Having owned a number of Alfas in the past and with an Abarth 500ss that is due for a change next year I'm left wondering whether it is worth while waiting for the 4c or forgetting it as another Alfa dream/marketing exercise that at best will turn up late/completely different/lhd only/or not imported.

The lack of specifics after all the hype of its appearances at various shows is a bit of a joke and perhaps reveals a lack of committment to the car which does nothing to inspire confidence in waiting.

So to those with inside knowledge - what would you do - wait and hope or just get a Cayman r or similar and face less frustration.

I'm thinking the same,is there any plans for the 4C to be shown at a motorshow/dealer in 2012?

Exactly...

Bear in mind the Mito GTA... it's coming it's coming, we are building it next year, have a look at the model we build for the shows and here is a lovely video of it going round a track... oh actually we're going to cancel that.

I wouldnt be surprised if the 4C is to be cancelled. They are saying 2013 for the first models off the production line... I wouldn't put any money down on it.

The chrome one that was shown recently is just the red one that's been wrapped... rolleyes

New luxury car tax just announced in Italy could have an effect too.

I have to say that the way the seemingly obvious - and relatively cheap - development of the mito gta was dealt with is influencing my unease.

The Mito GTA seemed to be the right way to boost the range profile and was promised/talked about a lot.Now we have the 4c being talked about and the question arises as to whether its all talk/hype with no real substance.

I'm glad I'm not the only doubter here but sadly this is partly why the goodwill towards Alfa that has existed all my motoring life is being undermined.

Perhaps the answer is an Elise as I have looked again at the Cayman R which just seems too expensive at about £57k.

Obviously you have just missed the Frankfurt show in September with the liquid metal (wrapped?) 4C.

I suspect that 2012 will be about the US market as Alfa are relauncing there, so if anything I guess that it will need a trip to the States.

Been following it myself as a possible Elise replacement. I would say the 300bhp is heading for the car as Dallara missed their weight limit on the xbow and needed more power !

http://www.alfa4c.co.uk/article/alfa-romeo-press-r...

<<Alfa Romeo has announced a new turbocharged 1.8-litre engine producing 296bhp. Rumours are it is destined for the 4C.

The new engine will be built at the Pratola Serra plant in Italy starting in 2013 giving rise to the rumour the 4C will be delayed until 2013.

The 1.8-litre turbo is also likely to see action in the SUV due in 2014 along side the 159 replacement.

The new engine meets the ultra strict "Euro 6" pollution regulations.>>

Reading the articles on that site it is looking more and more like 2013 too.

I cannot see it being cancelled - Alfa are after a halo car for the US relaunch. Though a MX5 rivalling Spider seems likely too (on a shortened Challenger platform).

Alfa seem very serious on the US market....

Not sure my 1990 Alfa 33 will get me to the top of the list though frown

I also heard the 296bhp was going into the 4C but they were holding back for the US market, ie the UK cars would not have this engine (due to 2012 delivery)

However, I think (and hope) that you are right as it's worth waiting until 2013 to get 296bhp in a 850kg vehicle!

COuld be true - they seem to be seeing the USA as a different brand with different offerings.

Giulia in the USA likely to have very different styling.....

Could also be a 4c base model launch edition and a "R" style high performance model to follow.
