Well my Fantasia has been patiently waiting for a year and I've done exactly nothing. Apart from experimenting with a polishing mop to delay the respray a while longer she has moved a few times but the petrol is off and the engine doesn't run very well or smell very nice at all.

Fuel injected and five speed with a more sedate interior...

...but the project part is the rear inner sill section.
A drainage hole was blocked with mud so moisture built up the inner sill all the way up to the seat belt anchor.
Should be on the road by the end of the month.

So the first job I had planned for today was the steering rack gator. I have a spare one and bought a pair of track rod ends. As one needs to come off it makes sense to fit a new one and like most things it's better to do these things in pairs.
Then it stated raining so I got this...

A new pair of sills arrived in the post so I'll be ready to tackle the Fantasia bodywork as soon as the weather turns.

I saw a TV programme a while back where a guy started with a couple of hundred quid and traded his way up to six grand by a mix of smart buying and only doing necessary work.
I think you could get from £200 to £2000 by Christmas if you put your mind to it. Only rule is you can only spend the pot itself, so for example you cannot start by buying a £200 car and spending £100 doing it up.
My £50 says you won't manage it. All activity must be on a PH thread for all to enjoy.

That's not a bad idea. The £300 Fizz is worth £1,500 when she's done and I have just bought a Mitsubisi FTO manual for £330 that needs a new clutch £60 and a bit of tidying up one of only six in the UK so could be worth more than the Panda.
The only issue I can see with the plan is I'd have to sell them.

I probably could do something like that but it would turn my hobby into a profiteering exercise and take the fun (satisfaction) out of it. The Fizz could be my nephews first car in a few years time so it's more of a long term thing.
Seriously I don't see Pound signs when I look at cars and I'm no Ed China or Mike Brewer doing basic repairs using second hand parts, running a polishing mop over and selling cars for a "fully restored" price. I hate "flip" shows like that because for every half way decent job they inspire there are a thousand bodgers calling themselves restorers selling borderline death traps.

Fair enough. I certainly wouldn't be any good at it. Not enough spare time, and whilst i am good at buying things, I am terrible at selling them. Hence the piles of wheels and tyres littering my garden, and the number of cars on our driveway (7, all taxed and insured, between 4 of us).
The main reason I've justified buying the FTO is I happen to have a clutch for it in my shed somewhere.

The truth is I was a little drunk and the Jackie Chan classic "Thunderbolt" was on the box.
It'll probably be quicker doing the job than finding the clutch.
I've always said if I were to win the Lottery I'll buy a big warehouse and be like Jay Leno; but none of my cars would cost more than a £30,000. There are only three I would buy for more, a Lotus Carlton, Ferrari 355 and Alfa 4C or Evora 400 (tough choice between those two).

Evora due to being manual and therefore a better drivers car but the 4C is such a nice car I can forgive the flappy paddliness.
Back on topic I've decided against doing another thread about the Fizz as it would amount to a minor repair...
...(with the cable tie cut at a forty five degree angle to annoy the crap out of whoever does it next)
...and a bit of welding that turned out to be a lot of welding as I peeled back the layers. I had to cut a section of sill, inner sill, floor flap and suspension mounting plate before I could get to a solid foundation to work from. I replaced the mounting plate with an angle section and the floor flap was replaced with an offset angle section basically making it box section leading up to a new inner sill section I made myself and some of the prettiest welding I have ever done is now covered up with a section of a pattern sill that was so "far out" it should have gone to Woodstock and nowhere near a Panda. Still I fettled it about until it looked presentable and got the black paint out.
Done to what I call a "repair" standard. I actually used filler.

In other news my drunken eBay FTO will get a new friend Sunday as it was cheaper to buy a complete car with a reconditioned gearbox than a rebuild kit.
As I'll have a spare one how about an FTO V6 powered Panda?

Yes. I was outbid by the Wheeler Dealers when the car was still silver. Properly restored that Panda would be worth close to £5,000
Wheeler Dealers listed the car on eBay with a £1,000 stating price about a month ago and the listing was removed with a day to go because there were no bids.The car was allegedly sold on the show (to an extra who appeared in Alan Partridge "Alpha Papa", and works as a part time model) for £2,500 only to be put on an eBay traders page with the original Wheeler Dealers listing and photo's for a £700 mark up the day the show was aired.
It's worth less now than the £1,000 I bid for it when the car was in a field. Seriously in that state the most I would pay is £600
It will take £3,000 to restore the car properly.
Having watched a few Wheeler Dealer shows over the years there is a pattern to it. A few basic repairs, run a polishing mop over it and sell it as advertised "fully restored" for a profit or occasionally do a Bernie and Lepu job and sell on the show but the cars are never seen again. I have to admit this car has annoyed me a little more than most but the show has spawned a generation of driveway bodgers and car flippers who believe the magic of television and think they can sell a repaired and polished car for a "fully restored" price.
You can't it's called fraud.
