You can load cardboard into the copier so gasket paper should be a possibility. scratchchin

Tesco have engine oil on special offer £10 for four liters so I'm cycling to work next week. wink

If the weather plays ball I'll hopefully get the exhaust done today.

That's a good price, what viscosity is it?

I got the 10-40w for the Panda but the also have 20-50w as well. Such a simple job became a bit of an adventure. The Renault filter I bought last year for £6.00 was too wide to fit the Grande Punto block. One of those things I should have checked before. The 1368cc block is wider than the 1108cc and 1242cc blocks to accommodate the wider crank. So as well as the starter motor being a fiddle I had to get a bigger yet cheaper Grande Punto filter for £4.12. There wasn't enough room for my chain filter removal tool so I used a rubber hammer and jack handle to get the old one off and clamped a bit of old t'shirt around the new filter to tighten it up. I'm glad because the thought of putting a French part of my little Italian car was unfathomable. wink

First off today I had a bit of a problem to solve...

...the pipe from the water pump fouled the exhaust manifold. After a bit of fine tuning with a rubber hammer...

...solved. So a bit of fabrication later and I have the pleasure to introduce you all to...

...Frankenzorst! Punto 75 manifold and shortened down pipe with the "S" piece turned ninety degrees so it clears the bottom of gear linkage, a length of mild steel pipe I bought from work for £1, the centre cherry bomb from the Guff racer, modified rear pipe from the original Panda 750 box and finally the Stainless Steel Longlife back box from Guff I paid a fifer for last year. The pipe was six inches too short so I added the centre box to make up the length and give me an off cut of pipe to use later.

First trial fit...

...clears the linkage nicely.

Clears the selector box as well.

Clears the Omega rear suspension and...

...lines up with the centre mount perfectly.

A little low up front...

...but looks pretty good from the back (if I do say so myself).

At the lowest point I'll add an extra couple of exhaust clamps with titanium nuts to spark when it grounds out. If I go for fourteen inch wheels I can lower the car two inches, on 13's I can only drop the car 40mm at most.

I didn't like them much either. Accept no imitations, follow the path of original Jaffa enlightenment wink

Can't help noticing no flexible exhaust sections? Reckon it will last without cracking, or have you cunningly designed an extra long engine steady?

Extra slack rubber mounts. wink My Cinquecento was the first car I've ever owned that had a flexipipe. My concern about the ride height is an issue but adding a sumpguard to protect the exhaust will lower the car further, add weight and reduce the cooling effect of the radiator so I think an extra exhaust clamp to act as a bumpstop with Titanium nuts (so the car sparks down the road like an 80's F1 car) will do the trick.

Back on the topic of boxed treats....

These are brilliant!

Gingernut biscuits with dices of stem ginger so the biscuit qualifies as a cookie and completely covered in dark chocolate. The bitterness of the chocolate compliments the sweet cookie perfectly. If I had to find fault because they're completely covered in chocolate you need to break them in half before you dunk them in your coffee. Having said that the chocolate give them Hobnob level of structural integrity and when held crack up you don't lose a drop of coffee. Superb. smile

Long day at work. rolleyes

Would be better with Bornville Chocolate.

Anyway back to Panda stuff (I know but I'm not at work today).

A couple of fiddly jobs needed taking care of.

Exhaust gasket and rubber hanger fitted. I won't bore you with the details but it involved taking the radiator out and swearing a bit.

Make a couple of brackets and drilled a couple of holes so I could fit the grille...

...and bonnet vent...

...to stop rain soaking the coil and carb's I've used an off cut of pollycarbonate...

...speaking of carb's my £4 air filters arrived today. smile

All in a pretty good day apart from a minor mishap whilst making one of the grille brackets.

A piece of metal I was drilling a hole in slipped out of the pliers and cut a lovely clean slice along my thumb. Took a while to stop the bleeding and as a general rule if it needs less than ten stitches I don't bother. Blood, sweat, shame I'm out of beer. wink

So back to the job(s) at hand.

Inlet manifold design phase.

I have a couple of options. The top one is a basic pair of "Y" pieces welded to the base plate and the second is basically a pair of shaped funnels. The "Y" design allows better air and fuel transfer but the funnel design is like a twin SU manifold that uses the vacuum of the engine to divide the air/fuel flow. Could this cause turbulence within the manifold and condensation of fuel vapor contributing to the possibility the engine could flood?

Anyway a pair of carb' mounting brackets are on their way (actually cost £1 more than the carb's but they were a bargain. I think I'll go with the "Y" design or a variation of it at least.

How about a funnel design with a couple of flaps to divide the air/fuel flow more efficiently?

Any thoughts on the topic or advice will be great. smile

Just to show my addition of a centre box to the exhaust was not for my neighbors benefit I had another use for the pipe...

...you'd think I planned that. smile

Anyway I'm supposed to be on my way to Birmingham to collect two sets of Cinquecento wheels but the guy didn't get back to me with his address so I'm stuck for things to do. To humid and windy to paint the inside of the car blue, I don't fancy getting filler dust in my open thumb so the bodywork can wait. I can't do the manifold because Optima haven't got back to me with the base plate as yet, PayPal is doing everything by e-cheque because of the Nat West situation and I've been called into work tomorrow because my former colleague was caught asleep on duty.

The base plate not arriving could well be a blessing is disguise because the carb' mounts arrived today. smile

If you're wondering why one looks a lot cleaner than the other I was bored watching tv and polished the inside of one with some wet and dry paper.

I'll do the other one during night shift. wink

Also the pipe I ordered arrived as well.

As you can see it's the perfect size for the carb' mounts and the inlet side. So it should be a straight forward "Y" piece made out of the pipe, base plate and two plates for the carb' mounts.

So having thought about it. I think two plates would be easier. The engine side plate based on the gasket and a single carb' plate a bit like this...

...I'll need to put the carb's in their mounts made a template based on that to ensure the correct size. I'll have to do it at work as my photocopier won't work with the lid open. wink

Why not just buy yourself a slab of steel and get (Black and Decker) jiggy with it? You'll need to do a bit of filing/die grinding to get it nice mind.
