Not quite, the Evo 2 was never meant to be rallied, which is why it has a smaller turbo.

Hi Integrale body of knowledge.

I am in the market for an EVO and from what I have read, a good EVO 1 will fit the bill.

EVO 2's appear inflated price wise, for not that much gain. Am I right ?

Walkers seem to have a good range but pricing seems awry ? Walkers are local ish to me so if their cars are signifantly better then I might be tempted to pay the premium prices.

Any body care to comment about the the following 2 in PH classified's and those on Walkers list
OR
Do you know of a good example elsewhere (pref PHer owned and cared for). Service History is critical to my purchase.

First one looks good, modded but not OTT. Would want to know it's German history mind. And ditch the mudflaps (sorry if the owner is here wink)
Second one isn't overloaded with provenance in the ad either.
Walkers are expensive, simple as....but then all integrale specialists are I guess...
There's a white one over at richard thorne, uk car, fsh 88k, £10.5k. Verde York too at £12.5k

Integrales are brilliant cars, and needn`t cost loads to run if you buy a good one, which is, of course, the difficult bit. I have seen an Evo that someone bought fairly cheaply (but not that cheap), and you could see the front end moving about as you drove it, it was so rotten!
BUY THE BEST ONE YOU CAN-it`s cheaper in the long run. You can easily spend £6000+ on doing up a bad one and still have a fairly poor car at the end of it.
The advantage of Walkers is that they guarantee their cars-you buy one and drive it away knowing you won`t have to spend any more money on it for some time. How much that`s worth is up to the individual. If you want an Integrale but don`t know enough about them to know what to look for, accept that you need to pay someone with that knowledge to find you a good car, either indirectly by paying more to someone like Walkers or directly by getting an expert to look at a private car ( or a non-specialist dealer car ) for you.

Thanks to both respondants.

Been to Walkers today and had a look.
Their V expensive ones (£22.5k and £17k) are superb (especially the £22.5k) but not what I want to spend.
The lesser priced cars have had mucho welding (not sure if this is a norm on cars this age ?). Having said that both had significant history files with some good names mentioned eg Whalley, Thorne et al. I am contemplating my options, but felt I might be able to do better with my pot of cash ?
The dealer supplied security is appealing.

The 2 at Richard Thorne look like the kind of thing I am after (no mileage listed with the Verde ?) Distance will have to be no object in my search it seems. No response the PH seller yet (sent pm yesterday).

Given that I am after a good EVO 1; what should I expect to find when looking ie what expectations are reasonable?
Budget £10k + a bit if need be.

Welding is the norm on integrales. Depending on where, I should add. They suffer from stress cracks at the bottom corner sill area of the front doors. This is exacerbated by stiffer suspension I've been told by JW. I think there are a couple of other places that need routinely need work too.
Basically, not a bad thing really and good to have had it done.

I'm genuinely kicking myself as I sold on a gorgeous madras blue evo1 for £7.5k that was a uk walkers supplied car. Got a feeling that was a cheap sale now. Still, no help to you! I reckon a bit of patience will see you with a good sound car, although there doesn't seem to be much on the market at the moment.

You're looking for the right things to be honest. Personally I'd want a v good SH (stung badly on my first integrale) and no mods. Think the big ends can go when run low on oil. Belts need to be done (balancer ones too). Bodywork they go at the top of the roof at the rear and around the front windscreen but aside from that are actually very robust although they do stone ship badly. Hopefully some of the other guys on here will reply soon as I'm not an expert on the ins and outs anymore.
To be honest, I've spoken to John Whalley twice, many moons ago, and he could not have been more helpful in chatting to me despite there being no sale involved. He told me a hell of a lot about the cars. (He did the once over on one for me after that so I guess he did get work out of it)

Recommend speaking to Whalley, always use him to look after mine, although doesn't seem to be at the workshop every day at the moment. Heard same re suspension & stress cracks but I'm no mechanic.

Like all these things buy best you can afford with history, having said that mines got full history & still costs to keep on the road, tends to be small things that add up, i.e in last two weeks windscreen washers have packed up & a stone smashed one of the headlights.

Reckon w/ £10k+ there'll be good choice - I like the look of the two at Thorne's, especially the Verde York (the 8v he's got looks good as well). Pics when you get one mate.

buy an evo1 or 16v - make sure its got either 15 or 16 alloys not 17's (stress cracks) buy the best you can afford - budget £3k to get it right.... if you dont you'll hate the experience

oh and find a specialist in your area - agin evocorner will advise

Hi Setch, my Verde Yorke Evo I is up for sale at the moment. All the advice given so far is accurate, the cheaper you look the more you get stung. It is unfortunately a fact of Integrale life because sooner or later you *will* pay the full price in one way or another. The upside to buying expensive is that you tend to recoup that amount come your own sale, the good cars dont really lose their money because we spend the money to keep them good and then pass them onto new owners who appreciate the cars.

Mine came to me from another well known ph'er, stonking service history and has been wonderful, cant fault it. I currently have her in for a service, MOT and new ARBs to make lovely and sorted for the new year.
(Is it just me who gets a buzz out of getting a car ready at the start of Jan and so able to see the rest of your perfect motoring car yr stretching out ahead of you?)

Ill mail you some details Setch, I think it could be right up your street.

Um, I've owned 4 of them. I've had the pleasure of driving some really nice machinery over the years but I've never found a car as invloving as a well set up integrale cross country, yes Subarus and Mitsi's might be quicker but the integrale didn't win 6 straight WRC's for no reason. No other manufacturer has managed that.
This is my latest one.

Maranellohouse - Just out of interest, what did your 'Evo' start out in life as? I seem to recall this car at John Days @ Brands Hatch, it ran 18inch rims if i recall

I have taken the Integrale plunge and purchased this:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/327960.htm

End to end history, acceptable mods, excellent seller, superb car.

I collect on Friday.

Just got to sell my S54 ZM Coupe now (superb car also, mad fast, but not so family friendly).

The 5 door hatch that is the Integrale, should cater for our needs and I can thrill the wife and son all in one go, with my new found 4 wheel drive drifting skills (well per my lads PS2 GT4 game).

Congrats! You will not regret it, ever.

Such an involving car to drive but they do make you work for it...which to me is the best part.
When you get it right in these cars they let you know by plastering a grin a mile wide on your face.

Don't forget to ditch those mudflaps wink

|maranellohouse. that. is. gorgeous.
