Yep, your experiences with the TCT pretty much mirror my own in the Giulietta. Although, my car is diesel so doesn't pop and crackle....lol

You're right, the ECU does learn your driving style and as a result the gears change accordingly in auto. Personally, I'm a bit lazy and tend to drive to work normal and auto and revert to a Dynamic on the way home. I tend to leave it in auto and override the auto with the paddles. My 2012 car has covered 42,000 miles and so far I'm very pleased with it.
I drive a manual Giulietta diesel myself, going in its fourth year now. Amazing torque gives it a character to its own. The wife drives a Volvo so I don't really need it anymore but it feels a shame to sell it on.
I have never considered ordering it with TCT -ever!- but now I wish I had now.

Full carbon = 1585kg. Wow Chiti would be proud...

Even heavier than the AMV8 for fk sake.
No it's not:

8C : 1560 kg
V8 Vantage (manual) : 1570 kg

And then I haven't even mentioned the weight of the cf bodied V12 Vanquish.....

Um where are you getting your figures from? Every where I look its 1585kg for the 8c. Every Mag test I can find state 1585kg from 2007, as does every other site on the net. I cant find the press release kerb weight, all I am getting in 1585 - you must be confused.

Regardless of the odd kg, its still very heavy. But if Alfa had let Dallara finish it as it had been intended, no doubt it would have been epic. Apparently Dallara will point owners in right direction to finesse the cars dynamics as they intended. Although it was meant to be rather great fun on the roads as it was.

Latest news from EVO

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHD6s8QXoQI

- 4C is still not a performance car, still needs a lot of engineering, as noticed from touching car with right hand without looking at it.
- 4C looks like a babboon's butt, lights slightly less ugly.
- Rumor has it the Alfa Spider will not be released but become an Abarth. According to most other (and apparently more clued up) outlets that rumor is actually about the planned Mazda/Alfa MX5/Spider and not this one, but hey ho.
- The standard wheels as offered from day one, have suddenly become "new designs".

Honestly why these guys have such a reputation and following, I'll never get.

So, are you saying that, if they don't know every last detail on every car sold on every market, if they take a group of cars out on a test, they are not qualified to comment on what they find on that day with those cars?

I commented on the video. The one in the post. It does not contain a group test. It only contains biased and wrong information.
On the plus side they are consistent with their last opinion. That's sort of new there. Wonder how long that will last.

And if they had all said the Alfa was fantastic on the group test, would you be so worried if they knew every fact about every car on every market?

I suspect in fact you would be discussing the successful tests only and discussion about the journalists simply wouldn't come into it. You certainly wouldn't be accusing them of bias. laugh

As it is, because you don't like the message, you are going to continue to deride the messenger boy.

In the same way you continue to deride the views of Errek72, No?

Drove it for the first time in the wet today. Total hoot. Safe when you want in normal mode, controlled slides in dynamic. And the noise it makes when accellerating and struggling for grip biggrin
Got more confidence in the car from today's hoon.

Yes, did not fork out for leather seats and led/carbon lights but did spec sports exhaust and suspension. The exhaust is a big part of the fun. The only time I would like it a bit less full-on is when I leave for the sunday morning run (neighbours...). But with warm engine and a tunnel... biggrin

Deride in what way?

I'm exploring the idea that private owners (who almost always drive a car in isolation) are better qualified to judge a car than experienced car testers who get to test the car in direct comparison with other cars.

I have some sympathy with erriks views - I'm an MG man, and became used to seeing exactly the same type of remarks from MG owners when road tests were equally unfavorable to MG products smile.

But, I have to say that I thought the journos were right, even though I may have continued to choose to drive MG products.

I even enjoyed one occasion on a track day when in a standard MGB and came upon a Richard Bremner in his 2.0 Alfa GTV. According to Mr Bremner and his colleagues his Alfa was considerably better than an MGB, so how come he was holding me up? He was at the time an amateur racing driver too, I was on my first track experience in a car.

However, whatever I wanted to say or think, I could not deny that his Alfa was the more modern car and no doubt a better drive on the road, even though a live axle and cart springs can work well on track.

As I said, this discussion would not be taking place if the journos had praised the Alfa above Porsche and Lotus; presumably the same journos then would be thought alright and unbiased, but instead as the (consistent) message is not liked, the messenger boys must be tore into.

A mate of mine just ticked everything, he should have his car in the next couple of weeks. He's got an LE coming and managed to persuade Alfa to allocate the number 62 to him, this is because he's also got a stunning GTV Cup which is number 62. biggrin

Chuffed to bits. I still can't believe I own her. Getting chill from pulling the cover off before a drive. Laughing out loud when driving.
The view from cockpit with all the carbon, those front haunches and the curved window is an event in itself. It lives up to what I hoped for and then some. You can really tell the team that developed it wanted to make it a proper fun Alfa.

That said -as far as beauty goes- I still like the looks of Elise and Exige a lot. They look much better in real life than on pic, as does the 4C I think.
