Many thanks for all the nice posts much appreciated....Breadvan I think we have a common taste in classics as well as the Interceptor I have an Excel like you and had a Europa Special a Plus 2 a Fiat Coupe and a BMW 325! Am surprised you never had an Elan, I had a Vegantune restored S4 in Sprint spec with a 150BHP twin 45 Dellorto engine.

As for what my car is worth well I thought it would have been one of the best out there and the 1300 (especially the Lido) in great condition are the most sought after but this shocked even me! I know it is only 2k miles but bloody hell £17,940 for a large bumpered 1500!!

Love your x1/9, the new steering wheel sets it off.

I saw one the other day out side an Italian garage (garage of Italian cars, not a garage in Italy!), looked great even if it wasn't in best condition.

My aunt has owned her Lido from new, but been through two restorations I believe. She has also gone the white leather route which is a real shame IMHO as the suede of the original was a big part of the character.

Had to double take at the Interceptor's plate, JEN53N, how the hell did you manage that?

That is a very nice X1/9. Well done on the restoration, it's a credit to you. I hope I get to see it some day.

PS: WHY do people put "no time wasters" in car adverts, FFS? If you don't put that, does it mean "time wasters welcome"? I must say that the presence of those words always make me think that the seller might be a bit of a knob! Still, at least it doesn't say "first to see will buy". [/rantette]

I love it. My mate had a red X1/9 back in the day and used to take me to school in it. They still look great now and have aged well. I'd happily have one in my garage for sunny days but I'm a mechanical retard and couldn't restore and maintain one. Very envious of those who can take old classics and bring them back to life and keep them going.

condition-wise it does - don't like the wheels though, or indeed the colour frown

Seventiestastic , and a good "hey! I'm here!" colour for a teeny tiny sports car that no one in an SUV, truck, bus, or on a fast pushbike can see. I had a black Lotus Europa and was almost driven/ridden over by all of the above on various occasions.

Well I keep saying to myself I will do no more but this week I have added the stripes on the bodywork to match the originals I am having a Lido sticker sent to me by another generous member for the front left wing as per original as well. I have had an alarm and remote central locking fitted with the light and overide button in the centre consul which turned out to be quite a job plus I have fitted some chrome window handles.. I am not going to mess with the engine I am not bothered about anymore power so I think that's it finished.....hopefully!
