But unfortunately the real world mpg is less than 40
Real world for a 4C is between 7l/100km (slow) and 10l/100km (hooning), according to google that would be between 30 and 20 mpg - is that right?
No idea what an R8 does in reality.
He was talking about the twin air engines, I know the mpgs are low, but as a company, its more important (if they are selling that is) to bring down their overall CO2 outputs from their range. Plus, its just cool to see an engine that would be a perfect in a little light Abarth coupe!

On topic,

Here is the full track test I got the 4c stats from,

http://forums.motortrend.com/70/9523015/the-genera...

They weighed it, and as many said at the time, the Kerb weight/wet weight is 1013kg. I was surprised at that, thought it would be 960ish.

The R8 stats I got from an evo test with the R8 AND RS6, which was from here,

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/2246...

Quick point on the r8 real mpg, owners seem to get low 20s to high teens. Cant imagine Id get that with a 8000rpm redline tempting me!

The 895 kg is excluding all fluids but also excluding the no-cost options like aircon, radio and speakers, so 1013 kg seems about right.

Yeah I'd like to see what the stripped no options version is.

Just been to Variava's in Nottingham today to look at theirs.

What a stunning car in the metal - sounds superb just on tick over and I fit in it! Yay.

They've told me they should be able to get me one for 12 months time and I'm happy with that.
I've just got to decide between the 4C and a lightly used Exige...

(They've got 3 in the showroom - Chris Variava's own car and two customer cars)

Cool, so you can even do a comparison test drive perhaps. Not sure about Exige (which one you mean), but Elise is slightly better when it comes to ground clearance. Something to look out for depending how roads are where you want to use it.

And here is a picture of Chris's car.

Doubt a test drive of the 4C would be anytime soon.

As for the Exige, a V6 would be nice but in reality it would be another 4 cylinder supercharged version.
Ground clearance absolutely not an issue.

To the poster above - yes that's the one.
They really do look a million times better in the metal than pictures can portray.

That was the case also on mainland Europe about a month ago, all of a sudden test drives are available with some dealers. Worth asking around for I'd say. I adore the car and it gets better the more you get used to it, but much as the Lotus most likely it is not to everyone's taste.

Having just sat it one and having owned an Exige I would think the 4 is a bit of a better proposition for more than just a weekender.

Some of the reviews I've read have said it is in fact almost as hardcore as the Exige.

What are your thoughts to this?

Very difficult call to make. I've driven the Exige but never owned one or driven it for hours. The 4C is a car that has grown on me immensely over the past weeks. It is a bit daunting at first drive as it is very lively but once you get used to it, it is no hassle at all. Both cars have terrible luggace space and 3/4 or rear vision. What makes the 4C more domesticated is the gearbox as you can chuck it in automatic when warming up, when on sensory overload after a decent hoon or when your wits are better spent avoiding dents in city traffic. I guess that gives it a slight edge. On the other hand in my recollection the Exige I drove sat slightly higher on the road and was less of a worry when crossing gutters and bumps...

7L/100km and 10L/100km is about 40mpg and 28mpg respectively. Pretty good!

It's a beautiful car but that is quite the premium. I don't blame you for turning it down.

Same here. For that kind of money there is an Exige S waiting for you.

I'm going to keep my Spyder a bit longer, then see how the 4C lies early/mid 2015.

Saw my first 4C on the road about 8:30 Saturday evening on the side road which joins the M3 and A272. The driver had just completed an overtake and I was treated to a chorus of pops and bangs on the overrun. Lovely looking car and this first sighting didn't disappoint.

If it's anyone on here I was in the black caterham going the other way. The bloke drooling as you went by smile

I test drove one today... It was far too raw for me.... All the ones in for demo are the limited edition ones with sports suspension & it is really hard.

The noise of the engine for me didn't sound pleasant compared to the V8 in my R8. Although it really did shift.

One thing that I was surprised about was the weight of the steering it was lighter than my R8 and felt very good, however the car did tramline quite a lot which was very weird.

The interior wasn't that great either, but the worst part for me was the noise which wasn't at all pleasant and the gear change. In normal mode the car slurred between changes in both manual and auto. When in dynamic it just jerked a lot which again didn't feel that good.

So I think I will pass on a 4c which was really disappointing because I thought it would be the replacement for the R8 ...
