Gents,

I'm taken on the completion of the restoration of a RHD 1967 Duetto Spider.

The car has had a full bare metal shell restoration and is now painted. That's as far as the previous owner got. Everything else is in a number of boxes in unrestored condition.

The car and I are based in Ibstone, near High Wycombe. The reason for posting is to see if there is any like minded sole in my area with some experience, time and appetite to work with me on the project. I'm happy to pay for someone's time or to share use of the car once completed. Hopefully the project will be an enjoyable one, with good facilities available to work on the car and the funds to buy what needs to be bought. I get a couple of evenings a week to work on the car and am a firm believer that enjoying the restoration 'journey' is more important as owning the finished car.

The alternative will be to plod on alone ( I've built kit cars and restored a couple of classics) or write a cheque to a pro who is capable of getting it done.

If you (a. fancy getting involved or (b. have a recommendation to use someone beyond the 'obvious' Alfa outfits, do please get in touch.

Thanks
David

Hi David

Maybe not exactly what you were looking for, but 2 weeks ago today I took possession of a 1976 S2 Cammtail. It's in bits, but most of the welding has been done (although I'm a bit dubious about some of it). It needs stripping and painting, so I think you're ahead of me.

I'm in Prestwood, so fairly local. Would be quite happy to consider a "Labour Swap" for tricky jobs (such as Engine removal / refit), and definitely an "ideas swap". Also quite happy to go halves on specialised tools - e.g. Engine Crane. I am planning on taking 2 - 3 years to get mine finished - but I think I'm the 4th person to have this car in "Project Form".

Let me know if you're interested and we can arrange to meet. I'm off work for the next 2 weeks, so am fairly flexible.

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard,
Good to hear from you and thanks for making contact. Sharing some resource and tools sounds like a good start. I've got a good amount of kit including engine hoists etc and you'd be welcome to share them. I'm back in the UK in a couple of weeks and happy to catch up then?
Thanks
David

I'm in Prestwood and have an engine crane if you need to borrow one! I also have a 69 Stepfront Giulia, of which a lot of parts, etc are common with the Duetto.

Thanks Fergus. Prestwood sounds like the place to be for Alfas! Good to hear there's common ground to both cars as I could do with a steer on what's best to refurbish and what's best to buy new. There also seem to be a raft of specialist tools required for some jobs.... I've got to source a 1600 engine at some stage. If you know of a 1600 (AR00536 engine number prefix) that's available, do let me know
Thanks
David

David - from that small photo, it looks like you're stoved out with engines - why are you looking for another one?

The refurb / buy new question is an interesting one - I'm looking at brake master cylinders at the moment - the one on my car has been painted over. A new one is £325, and I can't seem to see a refurb kit.

Fergus - what part of Prestwood are you in (just roughly) - I've not noticed a 69 Giulia around. I've also got a 156 GTA Sportwagon, you may have noticed that. I'm just pondering what to with mine - the gearbox is out, and the head is off, but the main part of the engine is still in the car. Not sure if I'm hijacking the thread here, or muscling in on an offer made to someone else, but I wouldn't mind borrowing that engine crane if that's ok.

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard - these are the complete engines, there are another three blocks... smile unfortunately they are all the wrong size for a '67 Duetto Spider. The round tail Spider was fitted with a 1750 which is the closest I have. To do it right, I need a 1600...
Not precious about the thread, crack on!
