Forget a new model, just go for a remap of what you have sir, either DMS who did mine or any respected decent tuner, can get 190 easily, and that's befor e looking at exchanged turbos where 230bhp is a min.
Check out tmc website
Lots of good stuff engine exhausts and bodywork, Im about to put mine up for sale cos I drive it like twunt every time I get in it, and I no longer need it for work commute,
Check out a good exhaust either monza or something that makes a good car sound much better

I have considered tuning but I fancy a new colour and like the look of the new wheels and bigger brakes. I already have the monza on my competizione but if I buy another, I will probably replace it for something a bit louder and maybe revert to the one tailpipe on each side.

Yup. But not one of those new fangled FWD huge things.... :-)

Original 595 Abarth. Right hand drive with a ton of paperwork all the way back to it's original supplier, Radbourne Cars, in 1967.

Have had my 595 competizione for a week now. I'm 6 foot 4 and it's not as comfortable as I had hoped. If anyone is looking for one get in touch as I could be tempted to part with it.

Just saw your other thread Martin and we are the complete opposites smile I'm selling my Abarth (with a little regret as I've just spent £££ on a full stainless Monza) for a M135i ( http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...)

I know the running costs would be much higher (insurance almost doubled and is almost same price as my E92 M3) but found one with spec I like so decided to go for it.

I'm sure you will love the performance sir. I just never keep the one car for very long but I'm extremely tempted to buy the forthcoming 180bhp version and go a bit crazy on the modification side of things...or else I'll be more sensible and go down the new type r or wrx sti route...by next week I'll have another plan! lol

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the BMW.

I meant to ask - how old was your Abarth and did you take a big hit on it? I still owe the car £16500 so trading in soon is unlikely to be an option.

I'm the same...have a reputation of changing cars often! Longest I've kept in recent years was the GTR at 2 years...

It all depends on what you expect from the car to be honest. I'm lucky enough to have experienced quick cars and as I don't think I can afford any other options I'm now in the hunt for the perfect "junior super car". biggrin
Looking at practical, quick and well built cars and I had my eye on the new Golf R and M135i. It's shame that I can't afford the Golf R now so went for M135i instead.

Is there a good forum to join for M135 owners? For Abarth if you're note already on I'd recommend http://www.abarthforum.co.uk/index.php

Already on the Abarth forum - good bunch of guys.

I think you've made a good choice but for me, I wasn't enjoying the experience enough and it didn't look different enough to warrant £400 a month. If you're used to a GTR then I would imagine most things will seem slower but I found that the M135i was more than I wanted or needed for the road...and I have a couple of speeding fines to prove it!

The Golf R is supposed to be a great car but I think it looks boring from the front. I do like the quad pipes at the rear and the interior looks nice but I know I'd get bored with it after a while. I believe there were some very good lease deals available at one point, much like the M135i but I missed those.

For me, unless I buy second hand, I feel like there are less cars I'd like to buy (under £30kish) than ever before. I was always a fan of the RS range but I don't like the looks of the Clio or Megane (the fortcoming Clio Trophy might look good in the metal though). I've had a corsa vxr in the past which I loved but again, the looks of the new one aren't doing it for me. It's all subjective though as I sometimes look at the dinky Abarth and think the same lol...what I love about it though is that I have yet to see any other Competiziones, I can drive it really quite hard without it costing a fortune and the bang for your buck is really good! If I go for the 180bhp version I will most definitely need to do something with the steering wheel and seating position though.

Edit: good forum here: http://www.babybmw.net/

Thanks for the link smile

As this is my second car I always have bought second hand. I might consider leasing in the future as it seems to suit my style of changing cars ever so often.

You are right about the Abarth, it is cheap as chips to run and you'll have more chances of exploring the limits of the car. Regarding seating position I've read some people on forums getting Recaros on custom made rails.

I'll need to do something but companies that do this sort of thing seem to be less obvious up here than they are down south.

Just come across this oldish thread, and have to say its warmed my heart! I pickup my 595c competizione this week and absolutely can't wait! And just like a few others on here, I'm coming from an e92 m3 and just wanting some cheaper fun motoring for a while. And frankly, there wasn't anything else I really considered. Got a cracking deal on the car I'm getting, presumably because of the 180 coming out, which frankly means I could mod mine up to and beyond that cars outputs for free! Good news in my book. Haha!

Hey,

Just registered on PistonHeads and came across this thread. I own a 500 Abarth Esseesse, I'm only 20 so it's the cheap(ish) insurance that attracted me to the car, owned it for just over a year now and I love it!

Very nice sir
I was told by my insurance company no one under 23 to drive it, funny how on a multi car policy they didn't say that on the cls bi turbo....

That's a beaut mate! I do love the esseesse wheels, would quite like some of them myself at some point. I picked mine up Wednesday and I'm loving it! So much fun without risking your licence! Here's a quick pic.

I have a 595c Competizione and hand on heart, I can say it is the best car I've ever had. I used to have two A500c's before trading up to this.

It is standard apart from an aftermarket Magneti Marelli RS500SS backbox with racing Y section as I disliked the standard Monza system, black SS alloys and soon a Curt hitch.

I have had it eight months and so far, it has been a terrific time just to drive it. Ride is hard but that's what the moniker 'Competizione' means. I average 40mpg in it although range is pathetic at 250 miles (38 litres / 8 gallons) and the fuel level indicator is wildly optimistic. It estimated that I have 110 miles left when 1/4 full....

You can't go wrong with it really.
Replaced with this two weeks ago. 180hp to play with instead of 160hp.

I'm a male, i drive a 595! In competizione spec. Replaced this

with this

One thing i miss is the noise of the 350z. Fuel economy was the only thing which prompted my swap. Now on a working from home contract means i can start looking for another zed!

Tempted by the 160 BHP 595 Yamaha Racing edition, or the Cooper S.... Choices, eh? Which puts a smile on your face even on the drive to work?
