Loud thump from rear of 105 after hard braking
Discussion
I've just had all my suspension bushes, etc, replaced and upon getting the car back have noticed that following hard braking, after waiting about 1 second there is a loud bang or thump from what appears to come from the NSR.
Any ideas what to check first? I've read it could also be the propshaft although this was also replaced.
The work was done by a very well known Alfa specialist.

So much of the suspension will have been dismantled, it's hard to know where to start.I've read it could also be the propshaft although this was also replaced.

Why don't you take it back to the 'specialist' for them to sort?
Why was your propshaft replaced?
Whenever I have had major work done on my 105 or similar I always ask my spannerman to use the car for a few days to iron out the teething issues that inevitably arise after major work - from a cooling hose letting go to brakes binding, etc, been there and done that.
No idea, did you have the condition of the rear axle limiter straps and bump stops checked - as the car may be bottoming out if a rubber stopper is missing.

The garage is about 130 miles from me, and involves a very convoluted train journey to get home again....Why don't you take it back to the 'specialist' for them to sort?

The rear section of the prop had badly worn splines. All the supports, etc have also been replaced. The front is original.
All the rear suspension limit straps were also replaced, as were the rear wheel bearings. Car is now running braided hoses throughout, but retains the original m/c and single servo. The middle section of the exhuast was also replaced.
It sounds like a spring is moving under load then potentially reseating after the load is removed. i.e. it's quite prominent. or a caliper piston is jammed then suddenly releases....
Any ideas at all would be welcome, even if the list ends up with several items!
cheers
Do you have standard rear springs or have you lowered the rear of the car?
I had something similar under very heavy cornering and it turned out to be a shortened spring coming out of its spring pan;
It was easily fixed by drilling the spring pans and fitting cable ties around the top turn of the springs.
I take your point about a 130 mile journey but have you at least talked to the 'specialist' ?
As an experienced person/company and knowing what they have just done, they might have some pointers.

I have 1" lowered springs on the rear of the car, which I suspect are the culprit. I'll see if there are any witness marks on the platforms, and may cable tie them in place, then go for a drive just to eliminate them as a potential source of the noise.I had something similar under very heavy cornering and it turned out to be a shortened spring coming out of its spring pan;
