I had a really nice 16 v integrale around 5 years ago, i purchased it from auto integrale. The car was low mileage, well looked after and most of all rust free. I know it was 5 years ago, but I paid 5 grand for it. Since I sold it i have had various TVR's, my current car a 4 litre Tuscan. I have had the Tuscan for 2 and a half years, it has been very reliable and got me around a 3k trouble free mile euro trip in September. I love the Tuscan to bits,(nothing like it) however the urge to get another integrale is getting stronger. The integrale has always been my favourite looking car. I have kept an eye on the prices over the last 3 years and the prices are very strong. I see the same cars up for sale for up to a year or more at a time. Has anybody purchased one recently, my question really is, are the dealer prices pie in the sky. What can you buy a nice evo 1 for. Cheers

You've got the bug….once you've had one thats it..you have to get another. Happened to me, on my 4th now and its a keeper,was lucky enough to find an Evo 1 that was laid up for years and looked a bit messy, but just needed a bit of TLC fortunately ! I think prices are a bit inflated at the moment after initial demand a few years back, and people have flooded us with Jap imports trying to make a quick buck. I think your looking at 15k upwards for a "1 " thats in good condition. Cant understand why the "2s" fetch a lot more when the "1" was the original big turbo homologation one , other than nicer interior etc.

Hi,

I paid £7500 for my 16V Integrale in 2009, it did come from Walkers and hence there was a premium for that, however it is a very nice car with low miles and low owners, all in the UK. Haven't had many problems with it once the teething issues were sorted (and the premium paid to Walkers kind of worked back in our favour = new clutch!! biggrin).

It's a bugger agreeing the valuation for it though, as I have no idea what it's REALLY worth but it's certainly one of the good ones out there (original/unrestored/no rust etc). Think I agreed the valuation at around £12k last time, which considering what I paid for the car, plus the bits I've put on since, and a sensible amount for appreciation seems about right.

I genuinely believe i'd not get as good an example for £12k though so will look to increase the valuation next time around.

Evo 2 mark up does seem a bit daft, can easily be another £10-15k like for like.

I read that the factory never rallied the Evo 2 either, the Evo 1 was the last actual factory rally car. With that in mind you'd think it would be worth more.

The original 8v integrale doesn't seem to be sought after which is a bit odd too. Maybe if a perfect, low mileage one ever turned up it would be? But it was the car that started it all.

I'm also on the look out having owned an 8v and a 16v many years ago, they just don't leave you in peace do they?

I've been looking since I p/x'd my Giallo Evo 11 back about 8/9 years ago, as you said they don't leave you in peacerolleyes.
Seriously thinking of selling my BMW (w/end car) in the new year and maybe looking for a nice 16v non Evo or a late 8v Kat.
As said previous the value of the Evo's have just rocketed so much since I bought/outed minefrown.

True they never rallied the EVO 2, but the technical differences are minor, but it is younger (up to 4 years) and better equiped than the EVO 1 (aircon as standard, high back recaro's, 16 inch wheels and some other details depending on the edition).

I'd love to find a perfect 8v. I think the 16v is probably the prettiest of the lot, the evos are cooler and more aggressive but the earlier cars look much smaller and are lighter too. I think the garish 80's interior is all part of the appeal now. From memory the 8v felt more torquey than the 16v and had a more pronounced cammy gurgle but power tailed off sooner, just like a rally car should! 16v was faster over the last 1500rpm but not otherwise. A smoother engine overall but slightly less character. What chance of ever finding a mint 8v?

HF4WD deserves to be sought after too. Trouble is you feel obliged to get an Evo 2 from an investment point of view but I don't think the premium is well founded.

I think you'll find that Evo 2's were also better built. From memory i think they were built by Maggiora rather than Lancia themselves and had a better build quality and finish.

Nothing wrong with any Integrale though, they're all great, even the predecessor HF4WD.

That looks absolutely cracking. If I were in the market today for a grale, I wouldn't bother looking at the Evo 2s. The 1 is practically the same, properly homologated and a darn sight cheaper.

With all the silliness in the classic car market at the moment, the 1 looks a bargain.

I have a Evo2 arriving from Japan today. 19K+import tax. Mint with 30K mls, one owner from new. I seen several EVO1s going through auction in Japan. Many didnt hit retainer and agree with above, they are much better value.

Why did i want the EVO2? Only because of the interior and some small mods ... and i also have an EVO1 smile

Sounds like a good deal. Looked on a european website yesterday and the prices are even higher than the UK, so that's a dead end. Many more 8v cars available than here though.

The problem I'm wrestling with is the Evo IV Makkinen at £12k for a really good one fresh from Japan. Great cars, great rally heritage, good investment potential.

Totally different sort of car of course but there's a very rare and completely bonkers 604 bhp Merc CL65 AMG for under £20k which makes spending over £30k on a 10 year older Lancia much harder. Very undervalued at the moment. The SL65s from the same era go for £35-£45.

Mr Pits, Import tax etc brings mine into check with UK prices and i dont save anything. I went to japan just to get a good one. Rust free and worshiped.

The Evo 6 Mak will have better investment potential than an EVO2 IMO (not EVO1). Less upkeep than the Grale and could be used as a daily driver easily. Think about a few extra quid for the UK edition as, although more expensive, I think there is still value in them and will appeal to collectors more having the benifits of underseal, servivce history etc. The P1 Impreza has definately got investment potential and there are some clean ones left. Forget the 22B smile

From Japan,... NSX(R), GTR34, GTiR Pulsar all have increasing value. Im looking for some clean ones at the moment

What separates the Lancia from almost any other car I have owned or driven is its classically analogue nature which translates to crispness and consistency of control, and feedback beyond almost any other road car (barring track specials like Caterhams). The difference is even more pronounced against modern stuff (increasing weight, reliance on stability control software, electric vs hydraulic steering, clutchless manuals etc etc). Also steerings racks on modern hot hatches and supercars make the cars feel 'dartier', but that doesn't in and of itself give better control (in the same way that over-servoed brakes don't necessarily mean you get better ultimate retardation).

The Lancia sits on the boundary between the era of fully analogue vs partially digital cars and is therefore the best of its breed. To me that makes it possibly the most immersive experience of its type. (The other car I note with similar characteristics is the 996 GT3 RS).

Having once spent a long day thraping a CL63 through desert highways (admittedly not quite as bonkers as the 65), I would say it was merely an interesting car, but ultimately forgettable.

What I'm saying is I reckon in 20 years time the integrale will become era-defining in the same way as people pay homage today to Miuras, Dinos and '73 RSs. £30k is cheap.

Sounds to me like you would enjoy driving some more Lotus cars!

I already have a Lotus Exige so I have all the manual interaction and feedback I need, so I have room for an effortlessly fast and comfortable Merc CL or something like that. Most days a bit of isolation from the road is desirable. Not for when I want to drive, but when I just want to get somewhere. Besides that I just can't find anything to touch the CL65AMG for £20k. Except the CL600 Bi-Turbo for under £10k! Dear Lord though, the depreciation is staggering. There must be quite a few rotting in barns just out of protest!

I haven't driven an Integrale for some years now alas but while I would expect it to offer greater tactile delights than either the Mitsubishi Evo or Subaru Impreza I would be very surprised if it offered anything over even a modern Lotus. The Integrale's power steering system was a benchmark for some years but Lotus went to enormous lengths to perfect the Esprit's power steering and had to do it all over again with the Evora which has the best power steering system on sale. The unassisted Lotus cars are even better!

Still, it remains quite incredible what Lancia managed to transform the humble Delta into. Love for the Integrale hasn't diminished with the years, as the prices clearly show. Frankly I'm amazed the values of some of the other rally heroes such as the Audi Quattro remain so low compared to the Integrale. Likewise the stonking RWD Lotus Sunbeam. Equally, it's hard to see how some of the Ford rally stars have become so valuable.

Agreed, Lotus is a benchmark for feedback. I have a Caterham race car but very rarely drive it on the road. I could live with an Evora as a daily.

There are a couple of crucial areas where the 'grale scores over other iconic cars: 6 WRC titles in a row in an era of true homologation, and those steroidal looks that defined the era. Like you, I am confused why quattro values haven't risen in lock step (although SWB quattros have gone stratospheric).

Thanks, I'm racing in the Mag 7's also, I'll keep a lookout for an Integrale next season! Very tempted to get one myself but having driven my Exige to all the meetings in 2014, I quite fancy the longer slogs in something a bit more comfortable!

You might say that Harry Metcalfe thinks that Evo2 prices have peaked! I'd be interested to know why he's selling up. Looked like a really nice car in his video.

Only managed one Mag 7 this year at Silverstone. I was planning to do Castle Combe but damaged the car in testing the day before - doh! Not sure if I'll be doing them next year as the car is really more suited to the Caterham Grads.

You'd be lucky to see the 'grale: doesn't make a very good tow car!
