Abarth Essesse
Discussion
Hi
I have an essesse 500
It's great fun- just grips and grips
The ride is hard no doubt about it, the monza exhaust has valves which open at 3000rpm ,I think, but can be wired open.
It's a fantastic hot hatch type go cart, and the fun you can have at road legal speeds is immense.
You can have any abarth remapped to around 180-190 bhp cheaply (2-300£)
I think the essesse runs about 160bhp so still room for improvement......
Around town or shortish journeys are fine but 2-3 hrs stuck in traffic get tedious.
On a run with a heavy foot I easily clear 40 mpg around town late 30s.
Go and have a go and I dare you not to smile...

Hi there,
Just picked up a Abarth 500 Esseesse. It's early days but I really happy with the decision. Performance wise it's really quite quick. In certain situations it feels quicker than my last car - a Alfa GTV V6. There is tons of grip and although the steering is electric, it does the job pretty well.
Although looks and aesthetics are purely subjective, the design flair is leagues ahead of the Mini Cooper (interior disaster), Fiesta ST (Gormless fish) or any of the passive aggressive Germans. The standard exhaust is fitted to mine and makes really nice growl. I would have rather had the Monza, but what can ya do!? The car is pretty rare and with the Abarth detailing really stands out. Most people react very favourably to the car and it's appeal transcends age, sex and interest in cars (or not). Apparently they are the third slowest depreciating car available too.
As mentioned, the ride is very firm. You feel everything - although I have just travelled 300 miles in it and feel fresh (a testament to the comfy seats. I'm sure over time things about it will start to bother me. So far so good though

Picked up a new 595 Comptetizione on Saturday and a total grin to drive. Was also looking at Mito and Mini having spent more years than I dare mention driving VW/Audi/Porsche products. Post test drive I was less convinced but after a week of dithering did the deal and was very glad I did.
Just do it!
Just do it!
Had one for five years and loving every moment of it. I'll be honest I was aprehensive buying it, but to be honest the only thing that has gone wrong with it is a broken filler cap.
The dealer network can be very hit and miss with regards to knowledge, reliability and general care so do your research and hunt about.
Thing to watch on the A500's (especially the Esseesse and 595's with upgraded suspension) are the top mounts and drop links on the front suspension as these are prone to wear.
