In my experience the thing to worry about with Alfas is the previous owner who has completely neglected the car
Absolutely totally and utterly spot on.

It's like a pussy. We can explain it to you but you will not understand.
Only one way to find out if you like it or not.

In my opinion they are fun. But I know people who disagree. Too bad for them.
Errek is right in his analogy.

Alfa is exactly like a pussy.

Best when it was young! Playful, pretty and performed brilliantly in international motorsport...ok so the metaphor has gone as far as it can.

Modern Alfas don't compare to the old stuff.

Alfa used to be renowned drivers cars, as well as winning f1, Le Mans, sports cars and touring cars titles, went a bit tits up in the late 70s with a few exceptions.

You want a 75 then. Styled to look like a Turkish taxi, interior from a jumble sale but engines and handling to die for.
And the Alfetta 116 / Guilietta before the 75?

Bought a V6 GTV intending to shift it on after a year.

14+ years later, it's still putting a smile on my face.

Bit silly maybe but what will happen when you flip over? There seems to be no driver protection.

you do feel pretty exposed on a motorway....dont know about you but I grew up in the '70's/ early 80's and managed to survive rattling around the back of my dad's Rover P6 and Merc 220 without belts for years. If I was in the front the crash protection was my dad's arm across me if we slowed down suddenly.

Four years ago I sold my 156 Sportwagon, because I needed something bigger (Don't say 159, I couldn't find a suitable one for sale at the time) but I still miss it. The only other car I can say that about is a Saab 96.

Why the appeal? One other reason is that I spent yesterday at Mitcar, in a field full of mainly Alfas, and the rest other Italian makes. On the way home, in the passenger seat of a GT, everything else just looked bland, even the hordes of Honda Civic Type Rs going back from Rockingham, and especially the usual German suspects. Design and character, even in the moderns, is the key.
