TS standing for 2 mths - tapping noise on start up - dare not run it for more than 3 bursts of 10 secs - could this be hydraulic tappets draining back, engine appears rough running too, if so how long with thick old tired oil to re pressurize? - any other thoughts?

TS engines are very sensitive to no/low/old oil. Maybe try an oil and filter change. I often see TS-engined cars for sale at knock-down prices because of engine problems.

The older Nord engines seem to thrive on abuse, if my mate's is anything to go by. The last time he came out with us, there was no oil on his dipstick, and we had to bung several liters into his radiator. Car still runs fine!

My 156 v6 was left standing for the same amount of time, when i started it up it had a nasty tapping so i turned the engine off. Restarted it and it went away after about 30 secs or so. Sounded horrific at the time! Think it needed an oil filter change. Ran sweet as a nut after that, just let it idle for a min or so and make sure the oil is on max before you try.

Edit, it didnt run rough though. When were the belts last done?

I'd change the oil / filter, take the big spark plugs out and turn it over on the starter motor for a while to build oil pressure.
