Fiat Coupe 16V Turbo restoration project

I recently bought a Bravo HLX and immediately thought of finding a Coupe 16V Turbo to swap engines over and build "the car Fiat should have" but as you can tell I've decided to try and rescue the car instead. I prefer the way the 16V engine delivers power and with the reduced weight up front compared to the 20V I prefer the way the 16V handles. Knowing what the engines are capable of it will be hard not to get "ye olde tuning forke" out.

...from eighteen months ago. I can't imagine sitting about has done any good.

Either way I'll have my work cut out for me. MOT'd 16V Coupe's are getting good money these days but like all of my cars this is not a profit making exercise.

So today I drove to see the car in the flash as it were.
She started first turn of the key with a jump and the downpipe was a bit blowy near the flexipipe where they always go.
The brakes are...
...very rusty but free. I was thinking of taking a set of discs and pads when I collect the car so it would be safer to drive home. I'll wrap the flexipipe and replace it at home unless I have time to do it on the spot.
One of the wheels...
...needs replacing, the headlights are a bit milky and the tail lights...
...are a pretty good nature reserve but mechanically the car is sound. Cosmetically?
Dent under the drivers side tail light, rear bumper and boot lid where the old girl has hit a post from the looks of it. Dent on the bonnet where someone has leaned on it to change the wiper (the one most Coupe's get near the headlight). New rear bumper, new boot lid, respray and other touch ups (aluminum mirror bits and the other usual suspects).
Also I need to strip...
...red paint from the engine. Looks nice from a distance but terrible up close.

I'm sure you checked but just in case, the 16V turbo has 16" wheels and the 16/20V NA have 15". They are exactly the same design unfortunately.....
Fiat had an annoying habit of doing that. I bought a set of Cromodore 14's from a Strada Abarth for my Panda by mistake. Luckily I left them in my shed and sold them to a mate restoring an Abarth a few years later. I still have a set of six Uno turbo ones in there. They are 16's. So I'll keep the two from Lincoln so I can have a set of five and the bent one will make a coffee table or something.

I like the look of this bumper. With more purposeful fog lights it would make the car look a little like the TWR XJ220S.

When I collect the car. I'll either take a mate, book it into MOT, fix the brakes and drive home or tow it.
I'm back at work Friday and have a track day on the 18th so it may be some time yet.

There is no doubt in my mind the car will fail the MOT quite spectacularly but I can't drive the old girl on the road without a pre-booked test. Towing is a faff and finding a trailer wide enough is near impossible.
Shipley or similar would be £200+ I'd rather spend on the car.
First walk around bodywork assessment.
Front wings are both scabby but the passenger side is replaceable.
Driver side rear quarter needs half a day or so...

While my breakfast was cooking I thought I would address the MOT issue that is the most concerning. I replaced the burned out light bulb.
While I was there and before I knew it...
...I had pushed out the side crease...
...most of the post dent. I can't get to the bottom pin push as it's on the lip. I may accidentally forget to put the lock back.
The bumper needs to come off so I can fill the lip fold dent so it can wait.
One issue is the oxidization of the aluminium light holder.
I've seen these mirror polished in the past but I'll be painting them with the rest of the car.
Chip away the stuff holding them in place so I can bench polish and/or repair or try with the holder in place? I'm tempted to fill the outer lip gaps as well to give the delocked rear a really smooth look that you'd have to know the car well to notice.

What seized it do you know? It was on my manor and was tempted, but when I saw the open fuel cap, seized engine and the bloke came across as a foul mouthed dhead I left it. Shame I didn't know you needed so little of it, you could have taken what you needed and sold the rest to me and left it up here!
I may be using the rear brakes to convert my Bravo HLX and other bits and bobs. Also what I don't use will do the rounds on eBay to recoup some of the outlay and buy more parts. I've all but abandoned the GRP idea as the Turbo will be done and the N/A was going to be the "project" project.
