Advert On German tv for the new Fiat Tipo starting at 12k Euros which is 9.5 k Sterling.

Which makes it a bargain I reckon.

Thoughts?

Looking at the german site, it is actually 14K but comes with 2K guaranteed PX value, but still, you do get the car for 12K, and it includes AC and a decent stereo, cant find any info on the engine though

Meanwhile the new tipo starts at 22K here in the netherlands... bonkers, you do get 17" rims though, but the only engines on offer (at least over here) are the 1.4 16v and 1.3 diesel (thank god they didnt put the twinair in there)

I'd have one if they made a faster version, the 1.4 turbo lumps from alfa would be an excellent choice, 170hp for the top fiat model, and perhaps the 1750TBi for a proper new abarth saloon!

They are being built in Turkey. Perhaps because of Germany's special relationship with Turkey they manage to import them cheaper. The way it appears at the moment buying 1 in Germany and exporting it to the Netherlands makes sense. Profit even. Unless there's a 8k tax on inports.

Import tax IS insane over here, but i have a hard time imagining itll be that bad

It is an interesting car for the germans though, 12K for a brand new non-pov-spec compact family car is a good deal, and the 1.4 16v lump, while not exactly powerfull, is a tried and true design

I can see somebody buying loads of these, registering them in Germany for a day or so, waiting the, I think, 6 months required to make the vehicle pre-owned and then exporting to the Netherlands etc.
