For those of you who drove the manual cars at Milbrook, I have to say that the auto transforms the car into a totally different animal. Clearly the car was designed around this gearbox and not the manual. IMHO, the gearbox makes the car what it is. It is totally brilliant and a far better option than any double clutch I've driven.
But isn't it just the ZF 8 speeder that can be found pretty much everywhere nowadays?
Albeit with a recalibrated software, I guess

So having been told September 16 for delivery then March / April 17, I actually took delivery on Monday, which was a nice surprise!

It was the spec I ordered, so that bit worked. Bit miffed to find it only has 4 seat belts, no mention of that in the brochure.

I shan't write a big review, firstly I am vaguely trying to run it in and the roads have been wet and cold since I got it and secondly the professional writers just do it so much better than I can. I will just say that the write ups seem to match the experience so far.

Niggles:
no 5th seat belt,
can't make the exhaust full volume without turning off the traction control - which means you are sideways all the time,
totally unfathomable media player,
auto main beam thing infuriating (as in all cars),
Interior switchgear apparently fashioned from recycled Quality Street wrappers.

Pros:
Auto gearbox a delight, it seems to be able understand whether you want a punchy change with pops and crackles or a smooth quiet change with no apparent input from the driver other that the extent and rate of change of throttle position. Very, very clever.
Engine, chassis balance and brakes are absolutely astonishing.
DNA switch - in A & N modes, it is a magically calm and comfortable cruiser, in D it gets a bit angry and loud but only when you push on and in Race its just plain mean and angry the whole time. Ace!

Fit and finish on the car much better than the Millbrook cars as well.

Yes, I paid list for it and I will haemorrhage cash on it.

But I really couldn't care less.

It's just fabulous.
Congrats on getting your car! Looking forward to some pictures and further review...

Supposedly no cars arriving until March
What was actually said was "likely to be delivered by March 2017.

Sorry to hear you´re having issues, no such thing has been mentioned to me about mine. What other "confusion" have you come across?
I was told by a dealer who knew someone at Alfa UK that all cars in batch 1 were to be delivered to port in one go at end of march. Delivery at dealer beginning of April. Gospel supposedly smile

Confusion on spec is down to what dealers 'assumed' to be standard. The assumption, as always, was off the mark.

People are being told all sorts at the moment so I'm just going to sit and see what arrives and when.

It's the second generation version and i guess they did a really good job matching the software and ratios to the engine. I had the first version in a 530d, which again was very good. What's makes it really special is the way it seems to change it's change program telepathically to be in line with your mood at the time.

Congrats on the car! Can't wait for mine to arrive. I'm holding out for a 17-plate though, so won't be registering it until the 1st March.

Interesting what you say about the interior switchgear? I found my dealer's demonstration car to have very solid controls. What specifically have you found unsatisfactory with them?

I think the media player is just a familiarity thing (like an iPhone user switching to Android and vice versa). I played with it for several minutes at the Frankfurt motorshow and thought it was baffling. Did a little reading and then found it made a lot more sense when I got to try the Millbrook, and again on the dealer car.

Jealous though. March can't come soon enough!

Out of interest - did you get notification of when your car went into build etc? Do you know how long before that event and delivery took place?

Yes, waiting until March would be the smart thing so do, I just don't have enough self control for that sort of thing though!

The rotary controllers for the media player and the nav screen both feel especially naff and flimsy, and the gearstick seems to be the same as fitted to the BMW, but with the high quality switchgear and decent finish removed and replaced with cheaper flimsier items. For the rest of the interior, the grade of leather seems a bit stingy for a £60k car and not really any nicer than that fitted to a Ford Ranger pickup, for example. The door cards flex when you open and close the doors and resonate with the bass if you manage to play any music.

Shame, because I really, really like the aesthetic of the interior.

I am probably being unfair, I normally buy used cars, so this one just feels very expensive to me and is by far the most I have ever spent on a car. In reality I need to accept that this car's list price is 1/2 to 1/3 of what my previous cars cost their original owners, so I have been spoilt!

On the plus side, the stalks, gear flappers, ventilation, windows and electric seat controls are all very nice.

With regard to the media player, I should put my comment in context - I can't effectively operate Apple Music either, which may be a large part of the problem! Also for some reason, no instruction book came with mine, though I have now managed to download one from FCA's online book depository.

I was told when my car's spec was locked (Sept16) and told when it had cleared PDI at Portbury Docks (Week 1 2017). It then took 5 days to get on a truck to the dealer, they got the car Friday afternoon and handed over Monday morning.

There's some serious confusion regarding these cars.

Supposedly no cars arriving til march. Now it appears some cars were delivered to customers on new year's eve, including Jeremy Clarkson. One other, a forum member had his arrive with the wrong spec.

Mine is built now I think and where I was told it had electric seats it now does not.

There's confusion elsewhere too.
Its Just Alfa being Alfa

I had far worse with my 4C, all I will add for me it was worth all the hassle to get such a special car , Hopefully the Quadrifoliolioliolooo will be equally rewarding !!

Where I thought mine was built already, it's now a week 5 car. At least I know now 😂

Oh, and for those interested, apparently you don't get full power delivery until 3000miles.

80% available from 0-1050 miles
90% available from 1050 - 3000 miles.
100% from 3000 on.

So, unless current dealer demo cars have 100% from the off then the vbox data I gathered can only be improved upon. Which is biblical!

I was at the Alfa UK QV driving event at a foggy Millbrook on Saturday morning. The format was 1-on-1 with professional race driving instructors (I had a gentleman called Stuart from, I believe, Silverstone) and I had around 75 minutes in the car with virtually free will around the Alpine course, high speed bowl and straight track. It was a chance to get more familiar with the car and try out all the different modes etc, but was a little limited due to the conditions (not Alfa´s fault!). The car I was in was a correct UK RHD auto spec.

The car continues to hugely impress - cruising at UK motorway speeds is extremely comfortable and the response when required is unrelenting! Braking is excellent of course (the car I was in had the carbon set-up but I´m informed that the "standard" set-up is 95% as capable, certainly enough for the public highway) and the handling, to this extremely amateur driver, was great - very neutral I guess. I certainly never felt like I was going to get in any trouble or run out of my limited talent.

Downsides - the car I was in continually threw up a non-existent tyre pressure alarm, and the dedicated car on the turning area´s dash display was lit up like a Christmas tree, consequently not behaving like it should. Watching from the outside, though, that particular car was being very heavily abused in similiarly amateur hands.

Thanks to Alfa UK for the opportunity. Now I´m waiting for mine to be brought from Italy, apparently the extreme weather is hindering truck movements at the moment.

Had a quick look at my intended configuration via CarWow and an Oxford dealer was offering £9.3k off list price.

3 other dealers offer zero discount including my own Nottingham dealer and 1 other around £5k.

Interesting...

Enjoying this thread and looking forward to feedback on the car as people put some miles on!!

I thought you got emailed back with an offer direct from the dealership?

I did the carwow thing too, I got email back from the same oxford dealer with a £6k discount and a completed finance proposal. If it is right it is a substantial discount, and a lower interest rate than other dealers....anyone got any experience of them?

Yes, see above.

Wait a few days, that discount might get bigger, I'm about to cancel my order. If they're discounting now, order books aren't looking good and I see typical Alfa residuals in the pipeline. I'll wait twelve months and save myself £15k I think.

Exactly my sentiments.

As I posted a week or so back I was offered a starting 10% discount for a straight cash deal after a test drive by my local dealer.

Very disappointed in Alfa Romeo in allowing dealers to discount these cars to such a level.
I would be very annoyed if I got told there would be no discount to learn others got 15%!
